Wampanoag Chief Massasoit may grace new dollar coin; Christian Slater on visiting Cape Cod
Bill would change Sacagawea dollar coin
Massasoit suggested as new face
The House voted this June to give a new look to the Sacagawea dollar in hopes of reviving flagging interest in the seven-year-old golden coin. The legislation, approved by voice vote, would make annual changes to the reverse side of the coin to commemorate the achievements of other Native Americans and Indian tribes. The image of Sacagawea, the young Shoshone who assisted Lewis and Clark on their expedition to the Pacific Northwest 200 years ago, would remain on the heads side of the coin.
The Sacagawea dollar was first minted in 2000 to replace the Susan B. Anthony dollar coin. Like its predecessor, it has failed to catch on with most Americans. The Sacagawea coin was originally intended for general circulation, but for the first five months of this year the U.S. Mint had produced only 7.5 million, all for collectors. In contrast, the Mint this year has produced 500 million of the new presidential $1 coins that came out in February...
The legislation suggested that possible designs could be the creation of the Cherokee written language, the Iroquois Confederacy, Wampanoag chief Massasoit or Olympian Jim Thorpe... SF Gate.

Christian Slater's holiday heavens
Turn out to be Africa and Cape Cod
‘It feels like I’ve only just started to enjoy taking holidays in the past couple of years. I went to Fiji on a diving trip this summer, and somehow it was just more fulfilling than the one I went on in the Caribbean 12 years ago. Maybe it’s just the stage of life I’m at. I met some people who invited me on this official dive in the Beqa Lagoon Resort. It’s in the middle of nowhere, and I had to take two planes, a bus and a boat to get there. It was worth the journey, though, as we did four dives a day, with one big shark dive as the highlight.
"I took my daughter to Cape Cod over the summer, where I used to go as a child. I still love it. My grandmother lived there and now my uncle lives in her old house. The buildings are all preserved beautifully and the area has kept its charm. I took my daughter to the same pond that I used to play in when I was five, and it’s identical to how it was then, which is weird, but great ..." Times of London.
