Falmouth in the Fall race set for Nov. 4
The Falmouth Road Race is one of twins, of sorts. There is the summer version held in August, invariably hot, muggy and very crowded. And then there is the autumnal version in the first week of November - far less crowded and presumably less hot.
Both races are run along the same 7.1-mile course along the coastline from Woods Hole to Falmouth Heights. Falmouth in the Fall, now in its 29th year, has grown in popularity to the point that entries were closed more than two weeks before the race (a reminder to register early next year if you want to get a number).
This year's Falmouth in the Fall starts at 1 p.m. on Sunday Nov. 4 in front of the Cap't Kidd in Woods Hole and ends at Falmouth Heights beach (just east of the old Casino seen in the lower right of this venerable and undated postcard). The top runners should be completing the course in under 40 minutes, a sub-6 minute mile pace.
