Falmouth, Wellfleet crashes; Dennis rollover on Route 6 Saturday afternoon

FALMOUTH - Two people were killed in a crash on Seacoast Shores Boulevard Saturday evening. A Chrysler Sebring went out of control, striking a fence and a utility pole. 24-year old Michael P. Duggan of CT and previously Plymouth, MA was pronounced dead at the scene. His sister 18-year old Sarah Duggan of Plymouth was rushed to Falmouth H0spital after Medflight was grounded by weather and was then driven to Brigham & Women's Hospital in Boston where she succumbed to her injuries Tuesday morning. Falmouth Police are investigating and say it appears Duggan was trying to pass a vehicle when he apparently swerved to avoid an oncoming vehicle and lost control jumping a curb and striking the fence and pole. Speed and wet roads may have been factors. 

While firefighters and rescuers were cleaning up at the scene, a report of a second motor vehicle crash came in less than an hour later. A three-vehicle collision involving a VW Coupe, Honda Element and Ford Explorer occured on Sandwich Road at Pinecrest Beach Drive. Officials believe the VW pulled out onto Sandwich Road in front of the other vehicles.

According to Falmouth police, two passengers of one vehicle, a woman and a 5-year-old child, were transported to Falmouth Hospital with minor injuries. The VW had to be removed by tow truck, with the other two vehicles sustaining minor damage. The crash remans under investigation by Falmouth police.

State Police investigating several highway crashes
CAPE COD - At least four major crashes along sections of Route 6 in Saturday are under investigation by State Police. About 10 a.m. 48-year old Paula McGuire of Sagamore Beach rolled over her Isuzu Rodeo eastbound between exits 8 and 9. Around 11:30 a.m. four vehicles collided in an apparnent chain reaction crash on the Scenic Highway section of Route 6 in Bourne. About a half hour later three vehicles collided on the Sagamore Bridge. No serious injuries but an 8-year old suffered a seizure unrelated to the crash. No one was seriously injured in any of the crashes but traffic was backed up by each.  

Two seriously injured in Wellfleet crash

     ^{Wellfleet firefighters had to extricate two people from their wrecked truck on Route 6 Saturday evening.}
WELLFLEET -  Wellfleet Fire and Police responded to a one vehicle crash on Route 6 opposite the Even-Tide Motel in South Wellfleet about 5:30 p.m. Saturday.

Two occupants were injured when a truck left the roadway and struck a sign and became wedged between a wall and a tree. A MedFlight helicopter was requested but was not available due to weather. Firefighters had to spend about 30 minutes using the Jaws of Life to extricate the victims.

Both injured people, reportedly from Vermont, were transported to Cape Cod Hospital. The highway was not closed but traffic was slowed to a crawl in the area. The crash is under investigation by Sgt. Robert Hussey and Officer Michael Turner of the Wellfleet Police Department. (Photos by AAP)

Route 6 ramp rollover  on Exit 9A ramp in South Dennis

SOUTH DENNIS – Around 3 p.m. Saturday, a Mazda 525 exiting Route 6 eastbound at Exit 9A failed to negotiate a ramp, hit the guardrail and flipped over. The driver 62-year old Calle Louis of West Yarmouth was taken to Cape Cod Hospital by Dennis rescue personnel with injuries that were not life threatening. The ramp to Route 134 southbound was closed briefly while the car was righted and moved off the roadway.   In photo below, state police and tow-truck crew survey damage after the Mazda is righted.
