Boil water order in Hyannis; Heroes breakfast

Hyannis DPW report begins:
E coli and Coliform Bacteria were found in samples taken at the small water storage tank located on Mary Dunn Road during routine sampling on 11/08/07. The results were received at 2 pm today (11/10/07). These bacteria can make you sick, and are a particular concern for people with weakened immune systems...

Hyannis residents under boil water order
HYANNIS
- Residents of Hyannis, Hyannisport and West Hyannisport are under orders to boil their water. The action was taken after E. coli was detected in a storage tank on Mary Dunn Road.

No illnesses have been reported. Water users are advised to boil their water for one minute before uses such as drinking, brushing teeth, making ice, washing dishes or preparing food. E. coli usually indicates the water may have been contaminated with human or animal waste.

Officials are urging people to boil their water before using it for cooking, brushing teeth or drinking until further notice.

People affected by the bacteria may exhibit symptons including diarrhea, cramps, nausea or headaches. Anyone experiencing these symptons should contact their physican You can read the official statement from the town here.

The CC Times reported today that about 7,300 accounts that include a minimum of 15,000 customers are served by the tank, he said. Cape Cod Mall and a number of hotels are in the service area.

Cape Cod Hospital and two nursing homes are also in the affected area. The facilities were notified as soon as the bacteria test results were received at 2 p.m., Hans Keijser, supervisor of the Barnstable Department of Public Work's water supply division said.

The boil water order was lifted late Monday. 

Red Cross to host heroes breakfast
HYANNIS
-The Cape Cod & Islands Chapter of the American Red Cross would like to honor and celebrate individuals at the 6th Annual Heroes of Cape Cod and Islands Breakfast on March 7, 2008 at the Sheraton Four Points in Hyannis.

 The deadline for nominating someone is December 28, 2007.
