Entering Bourne
Where Cape Cod begins"Entering Bourne" Is Born!

Greetings and salutations.
This is "Entering Bourne," the cleverly titled community web page serving the fi,er,nine villages. It's just a part of the new system we're trying here at CCToday, and we cover a lot of ground. You'll be able to find Falmouth and Nantucket pages already up and operating, and the other towns should be coming around any time now.
I suppose there are many people indeed who like to get their news from someone who is commuting to Boston from New Hampshire while they dream of working in NYC. That's all well and good.... but I don't really trust those talking heads as much as I do people who drop R sounds and say "wicked" a lot.
That's not as radical as it sounds. For most of human history, no greater medium was needed to transmit information than a tavern or a Church. The gossip I traded in while going to Duxbury High School was 100000 times more vile and base than anything you see on TMZ. The worst fishing story in the world is better than a ballet. Unless it's a 9/11 type event, I don't care what's happening in, say, Ashland... and chances are that they don't care much about us, either.
But this is a Bourne page, so they can just hop off the bridge.
Have you ever watched the TV weather, and that slinky little JC Monahan girl is standing in front of the Cape while she does her forecast? That's what we in the media call Boston Bias. JC is nobody's fool, and she knows where her bread is buttered. There are more people in Boston than there are on Cape Cod, so they tailor their news to draw in that crowd. We do the opposite here. When we do the weather, I'll be standing in front of the rest of Massachusetts.

Now that we've got that out of the way, let me tell you what this page is about.
Our mission statement here is actually quite simple and easy to memorize: "Inform."
I'll do what I can to bring you news, events, gossip, sales, sports, politics, opinion, entertainment, dining, contests, traffic, celebrities, emergency information and whatever else you may be looking for when you log onto your computer. If it happened in Bourne, it's fair game.
I'm a local (Buzzards Bay) resident, a Mom, a former teacher/counselor, and pretty much your Girl Friday for anything related to the town of Bourne. I've been called a lot of things, but I wear none of them with more pride than "your faithful servant." I'm a washashore... but I only washed in from Duxbury, so I pretty much came here prepared.
I'm not a legitimate reporter by any means. My last serious paycheck was from Charlestown High School or AOL, depending on how you define "serious." The last time my name was in the paper, I was either getting married or birthing my daughter Melissa. The last scoop I provided was when I was waitressing at Friendly's as a kid. The best thing that can be said for my skill set is that I'm very, very web-savvy.

I'm not as well-connected as the other Cape bloggers. Doug Bennett was a state rep or something, and Troy Clarkson was a Falmouth selectman. I was in the Key Club, and I cheered briefly.
I also have little/no skill with the camera. I plan to sub-contract most of the photography on this site. Over the course of my blogging career, I've taken a few good shots. It's all uphill from here, trust me. I also plan to copiously raid Google Images and YouTube for Bourne-type goodness. I welcome reader submissions, quite enthusiastically.
Our first entry tonight is simply me saying hello, and a few pics of the Christmas lights at the former Tugboat Rotary. I also went over to the ruined Mezza Luna to bring a 12 pack to the guys at the Toys For Tots vigil... but I didn't make it down there till like 9:30, and they were St. Elsewhere by then.
