Great Food & Great Entertainment without a Performance

The Chatham Squire, the fish-lover and fisherman's friend

But already crowded by early Snow Birds
And we still got out for under $25 for the two of us

We decided on a late lunch, and Chatham was the destination. There has to be some mistake, not only did we have to fight for a parking space, and you know in Chatham you had better be careful doing that, but the line was out the door. It was standing room only in the dining room of the Chatham Squire,  so we were off to the lounge side. Like the quest for a parking space, the casual lounge seating was just as difficult to come by.

What restaurant owner in the middle of February on Cape Cod wouldn't be out-of-their mind happy with this scene? The lunch specials were all reasonably priced and the sandwich specials are all $7.95. A great casual luncheon spot!

The best entertainment was the people. It was a little loud, but the sights made it all worth while, dishes being dumped, the hustle bustle of the waitstaff and the laughter from jokes all around. Ages ranged from 6 to 96--what a colorfully packed house it was! Kids, fishermen, doctors, lawyers, student and teachers alike.

Peanuts on the table, shells on the floor

Peanuts on the table for appetizers, and the shells on the floor when they were empty. We had the cheeseburger platters, served with the best fries, lettuce and generous portions of tomatoes (it was like having a salad on the side) and a cocktail each and we still got out of there for under $25.00 (not including tip).

Haddock plate with cole slaw and fries for $9.95

"A family restaurant with a multi-cultural menu and an entertaining cast that includes both the crew and the customers"The raw bar menu was very reasonable and there were seafood specials for those with a more hearty appetite.

The entree specials were all down to earth: massive salad creations, a daily blue plate special, (today's was a fried haddock plate served with coleslaw and fries for $9.95), lobster entrees, oysters, clams--a great selection with an affordable price range.

The most expensive daily special today was the fried oyster platter at $18.95.

The Chatham Squire is definitely on my list as a place to meet, eat and greet a wide range of local color.

I really did move to the wrong place...I'm allergic to seafood.

I used to sit at the raw bar and order the (lunch menu) schrod with rice and vegetable for dinner. It was more than enough for under $10, plus you got to shoot the breeze with Otis behind the bar.

About This Blog

Life is too cheap for short wine... It's "Not just Pheasant Under Glass" anymore on Cape Cod. As hard as it may seem on occasions, Cape Cod does have inexpensive, good places to eat without maxing out your credit cards.
Since we eat out six nights a week, it is purely defensive for us to find some relief for an over-taxed palate.
