Exotic entertainment not in plans for new Milton restaurant

MILTON - The man who plans to run a new restaurant in Milton said the business has no ties to the landlord, a holding company linked to a Cape Cod nightclub that closed after scantily clad entertainers were hired to attract business.  John Collings, who would manage what could be Milton’s first restaurant to serve alcohol, said Frank Viola, one of the holding company’s directors, is not involved, financially or operationally.

“Frank Viola’s past is Frank Viola’s past,” Collings said. “All we know is we’re renting a space from a landlord.” Viola, 65, who lives in Milton and owns a condominium next to the restaurant, was an owner of Guido Murphy’s in Barnstable.  When the club brought in bikini- and pasties-clad cabaret-style dancers from a Florida strip club to increase business, town officials were incensed. Permit-violation hearings were begun but were cut short when Guido Murphy’s closed and the company filed for bankruptcy in 1999.

Viola said Guido Murphy’s and the Milton restaurant, Blue on the Wharf, have nothing to do with one another... Patriot Ledger.

This season has been going strong, but over the past three decades the world-famous Nantucket bay scallop fishery's catches have dwindled and fewer young people are getting involved.

No one knows exactly what has caused the decline in harvests or what drives the occasional spikes. But Nantucket's catches were at a record low last season, raising a red flag over what, even in reduced years, is generally the most robust bay scallop population in the Northeast...  Globe.

“It will be an interesting rac.,”  - Neil RosenthalMIDDLEBORO -  The April 5 town election won’t be boring, with a full slate of candidates on the ballot. The most contentious race will likely be the seven-way race for two seats on the Board of Selectmen.

“It will be an interesting race,” said Neil Rosenthal, a seasoned local politician who now serves as an appointee on various boards. ...While some candidates, notably Gregory S. Stevens and Jessie A. Powell, have taken a stance against the proposed casino, Rosenthal said he isn’t worried about an upheaval or either trying to reverse the board’s decision.

He said the casino compact with the Mashpee Wampanoag tribe was ratified by town meeting. “I don’t think the future board can renege,” he said.  That aside, Rosenthal, who is the newest member on the Resort Advisory Committee, said, “I don’t think the casino is certain"...  Enterprise.
