Climate change may destroy fishing industry; CCBLer throws at 98 mph
CCBL pitcher approaching 100 mph
Aaron Crow pitched for Falmouth
When Missouri right-hander Aaron Crow touched 98 mph with his fastball in the Cape Cod League this summer, it wasn't something his college coach had forecasted for him earlier in his career.
Crow stepped into Missouri's starting rotation his freshman year in 2006, pitching in the high 80s with his fastball that usually topped out around 90 mph.
"You never expect a guy who's just touching 90 to get to the upper 90s," Missouri coach Tim Jamieson said. "You just never project that... ESPN.

UN report: Climate changes threatens vital fishing grounds
Overfishing, pollution and climate change are combining to create a deadly environment for commercial fish stocks, according to a new report from the United Nations. The report (In Dead Water),released today from the U.N. Environment Program, found a grim confluence of events. The researchers found that climate change is compounding other problems, like pollution and overfishing, as rising temperatures lead to coral bleaching and shifts in ocean currents that harm the ocean habitat on which fish depend.
The worst concentration of problems is in 10 to 15 percent of the oceans -- most in areas that include fishing grounds responsible for half of the world's fish catch, according to the report. Researchers said the concentration is much higher than previous studies have estimated.
"We are getting more and more alarming signals of dramatic changes in the oceans," said Christian Nelleman, who led the team that drafted the report.
The report was released today during UNEP's governing council meeting in Monaco, the largest gathering of environment ministers since the climate conference in Bali two months ago.
