Fire guts Provincetown studio

Deputy Chief Warren Alexander at a building fire in Provincetown Tuesday afternoon.
PROVINCETOWN
- Fire engines were sent screaming across town to the far east end about 4:30 p.m. for a report of a working fire at 313 Bradford Street. Arriving companies found a studio type building fully involved with flames shooting out of it. No one was in the building at the time and no injuries were reported. The question everyone wants to know after last fall's events is how did it start. At this early point we just don't know yet pending an investigation. The Provincetown Banner is reporting the owner of another studio at 288A Bradford Street (about a block up and across the street from this fire) found some scorched shingles on his building Monday that could have been an attempted arson. The State Fire Marshal's office is investigating Tuesday's blaze and CWN will bring you further details just as soon as we get them.

Man seriously injured in saw mishap
HYANNIS
- At 1 p.m. Tuesday Hyannis rescue responded to a 911 call at 4 Thatch Road in Hyannis reporting an amputation of a limb of a man who was working with a saw in the house. When paramedics arrived they were relieved to find there was no amputation but a serious gash from a buzz saw to his arm and calf. The medics quickly put the victim into the ambulance and stabilized him before transporting to CCH. Story and photos by Frank Paparo.

Power outage blamed on tree company work
WOODS HOLE
- About NStar 1000 customers lost power for about an hour Tuesday afternoon. Officials say a tree company working in the area triggered the outage though it was not clear exactly how.

Stolen ATV leads to arrest
HARWICH
- On March 3 at 8:30 p.m. Harwich Patrol Investigator Paul Ulrich and Detective Michael Porter were called to 602 Queen Anne Road to take a report regarding a stolen ATV.

Officers spoke to Thomas A. Walker who reported that his ATV was stolen by Stephen Jannell of Harwich. Officer Ulrich and Detective Porter located Stephen and spoke to Stephen at his home and he later admitted to taking the ATV in question. Stephen advised Officer where the ATV was hidden. Sgt. Kevin Considine went to this location and found the ATV hidden behind a vacant home on Oak Street.

During the investigation, it was determined that the ATV had been stolen out of the Town of Eastham last week.

Thomas Walker (right) and Stephen Jannell (left), both 18 years old from Harwich were charged with 1 count of Receiving Stolen Property over $250.

The investigation is continuing into the theft of the ATV.

Car vs hydrant in Harwich
HARWICH
- A one car crash Tuesday at 2:15 p.m. took out a fire hydrant near Harwich High School on Oak Street.

The male driver of the Lexus sedan refused medical treatment from Harwich fire and rescue personnel.

I recognize those two guys from Harwich in the mug shots. They used to be in the band New Kids on the Block. Now it will be New Kids on the Cell Block.

Regarding the stolen ATV......did Mr. Walker conveniently "forget" that the ATV didn't even belong to him and was stolen???? Maybe he thought the police were too stupid to run the VIN #. Hmm...a tad ironic, don't you think that the perpetrator of the first crime became a victim of the second? Get a clue boys...crime doesn't pay! Get a job and BUY yourself an ATV.

Big low pressure coming at us Friday/Saturday...either soaking rain or 12-15" of snow, depending on the track of the low.

They've been watching this storm for two weeks on the long-range forecasts, and they keep changing their mind about the track.

The Colonel-who is an authority on these matters- tells me to plan on rain, but his tone left enough wiggle room to have me watching the temps Friday night. If the storm tracks to our South at night, we stand a fair chance of being buried.

My husband- who actually understands things like GFS and NAM, and is more paramilitary than I am- would be the better choice, but he's not the blogging type.

In fact.... just to get him to take me to Walter's party.... I had to agree to such depravities that- were I to list them here- would turn this into a Penthouse Forum letter.

To be honest.... I saw the forecasts on the local weather sites calling for rain, and I wanted to scoop the story in case the low tracked offshore and gave us a foot of snow.

Of course... I write Sports...so your article was the only one where I could leave a weather-based comment and not be off-topic.

Ok so I might be out of the loop but if you receive a stolen ATV can you then report it stolen? Like if a tree falls in the woods and no one is around does it make a sound?

Now for the saw mishap...Was it amputated or a small cut? There is a big difference.

A couple of questions - is whoever taking the pics of these fires taking pictures of any crowds that may gather? I've heard that arsonists hang around. There might be a common person in these pics. Also when I log in why does it take me to an entirely different blog. Still heard nothing about the kid at EES....

EDITOR'S NOTE: NeeNee, every post CWN has ever written and every photo we ever published on them, is always available if you simply scroll down through the posts here.
Try the "search" element too for terms like "Provincetown", "Ptwon" or "fire" and see how that works for you too.

I take the Ptown pictures and yes I do monitor the crowd very carefully. Thanks for the reminder/suggestion.
As for the login problem I think it takes you to the most recent posts. To get all the CWN stuff just click on police/fire news (it's in the fly-out menu on tiopo named "News/Features") or check with CCToday for more help
Probably won't hear much on EES as the report said he/she is a juvenile and police were not offering any further details-TC

Once we get to purchase the y-fd bench and calendar--they did the calendar in falmouth and it was a hit--hyannis police need schwim scooters this summer, one of which we will donate, instead of the bicycles.

I asked at school what happened and they knew "nothing" about it. Basically I wanted to make sure my son wasn't at risk on his bus and was assured that there were no bus fights so....
