A Harwich ambulance arrives for someone "slightly injured" at this Route 137 crash Tuesday morning.

6-17-8-h-rt137-04_350HARWICH - A two-vehicle crash on Route 137 just south of Cemetery Road near Old Queen Anne Road sent one victim to Cape Cod Hospital with unknown injuries Tuesday morning.

It appeared as if a mother bringing her children to the pre-school across the street was waiting to turn into their parking area when the pick-up truck hit her from behind.

The accident happened Tuesday at 8:45 a.m. The cause of the crash is under investigation by Harwich Police officers Robert Horgan and Amy Walinsky.

Head-on crash in Truro

TRURO - Three people were injured, one seriously, in a head-on crash in Truro early Tuesday morning. A Chevy Tahoe (above) driven by 34-year old Christina Enos of Truro collided with a Toyota Highlander (below) driven by 20-year old Geneva Gann of Evanston, IL on Route 6 near Montano's Restaurant about 1:30 a.m. causing the Tahoe to roll over. Enos was rushed to Cape Cod Hospital after bad weather prevented Medflight from responding. Gann and a passenger in the Toyota were also taken to the hospital for treatment. The crash is under investigation by Ofc. Craig Danziger of the Truro Police Department. Further details were not immediately available.

New overnight: Operator flees Harwich crash, ammo discovered in vehicle

Despite the condition of this pickup truck the driver fled the scene. Police discovered ammo (below) in the truck.
HARWICH - At approximately 10:45 p.m. Monday night a driver struck a pole on Chatham Road, drove around the corner onto Echo Woods Road and then abandoned the GMC Sierra truck. While examining the truck, Harwich Police Officer Paul Boorack discovered some ammo inside the cab. The vehicle had Vermont tags and is registered in that state. A Barnstable County Sheriff K-9 unit was brought in to help track the suspect who was still at large at last check. There was no damage to the pole.

Cape Cod Baseball player hit by car, teammate charged
BREWSTER
- New details on Sunday night's pedestrian accident in Brewster first reported by Cape Wide News. The victim is a Cape Cod Baseball league player and a teammate is charged in the incident which may have been the result of horseplay.  According to police, around 11:30 p.m. Sunday night, 20-year-old Ryan G. Wolley of Montclair, VA was allegedly drunk behind the wheel when he struck 20-year-old Barrett Dail of Raleigh, NC who had apparently jumped up on the hood of Wolley's pickup truck. Dail was rushed to Cape Cod Hospital and then flown to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.  Both Wolley and Dail play for the Brewster Whitecaps.  Dail was drafted by the Baltimore Orioles in 2006. Wooley was arraigned in Orleans District Court Monday morning on charges of operating under the influence of alcohol resulting in serious bodily injury, operating negligently to endanger, and minor in possession of alcohol.

Fire damages Harwich home

Harwich firefighters at a scene on Whidah Drive Monday afternoon.
HARWICH - An electrical panel fire filled a Harwich home with smoke early Monday afternoon.

Officials believe a water leak from plumbing work at 10 Whidah Drive found its way into the panel in the basement sparking the fire.

Firefighters ventilated the smoke and checked to make sure the fire did not extend to the first floor.

No one was injured.

MARSTONS MILLS
- At about 3:45 p.m. Monday Barnstable Police responded to a call of a crash on Route 149 just off the corner of Route 28 in Marstons Mills. A van had rear-ended a large RV being pulled by a SUV. Firefighters dealt with a fluid spill while rescuers took one person to Cape Cod Hospital with unknown injuries. The rush hour afternoon traffic was backed up until the wreckage was cleared.

Beware of purse snatchers in supermarkets
CAPE COD
- It is not a new crime but one worth repeating. Thieves have been targeting the purses of shoppers in local supermarkets. A CWN reader told us she observed one such incident on Saturday. An elderly woman had her purse stolen and was telling police she was concerned because the thief had access to her personal information. In the same store Monday the reader observed shoppers were still leaving their bags unattended. Police urge shoppers to keep their purses on them or in their sight at all times.

I have a question....does the host family where the players were consuming alcohol also have some responsibility here? After all, they know that these players are most likely underage.
