Updated: Police Capture Man and Woman with Loaded Sawed-Off Shotgun
YARMOUTH - New details on a story reported first by Cape Wide News. On Sunday at approximately 2:21 p.m. the Yarmouth Police Department received a report from a concerned citizen that a man armed with a sawed off-shotgun was seeking ammunition and threatening to kill a group of people. Yarmouth Police Patrol Officers responded to the Curve Hill Road neighborhood in South Yarmouth and met with the complainant who further reported that the armed man had left the area on foot just prior to the police arrival.
Armed with the name of the suspect and a description, Patrol Officers began a saturation patrol search of the area. After checking the immediate area Yarmouth Police Patrol Officer James Cheverie went to the nearest store that sold ammunition. While approaching the area of the Riverview Bait and Tackle Shop on Route 28 in South Yarmouth, Patrol Officer Cheverie spotted a white Honda pulling out of the store parking lot with a passenger in the right front seat that matched the description of the suspect. The Honda travelled a short distance westbound on Route 28 and came to a sudden stop in a driveway on Carter Road. Patrol Officer Cheverie radioed for back up support and encountered the female operator and the male passenger. Patrol Officer Cheverie identified the passenger as the armed suspect and ordered him to show his hands. The suspect did not cooperate and refused to comply with commands. Within seconds the operator exited the vehicle and the male passenger jumped across into the driver seat and tried to drive away. Patrol Officer Cheverie took hold of the operator and pulled him from the vehicle. The operator resisted, fought back violently and ran off. Patrol Officer Cheverie pursued the suspect on foot on Carter Road to Wood Road and stopped him on Rose Road. Patrol Officer Cheverie brought the suspect to the ground, handcuffed him and placed him under arrest. Patrol Officer Chris Capobianco and K9 Patrol Officer Peter McClelland arrived on scene and assisted in taking the combative suspect, 48-year-old Michael S. Laurie (above) of South Dennis, into custody and to Yarmouth Police Headquarters where he was charged with possession of a sawed off shotgun, unauthorized possession of a firearm, unauthorized possession of ammo, possession of a firearm with three prior violent crime convictions, resisting arrest and receiving stolen property.
At the same time Yarmouth Police Patrol Officers Philip Magnuson and Erica Wenberg arrived in the area of Carter Road and found that the female operator and white Honda were gone. A check of the vehicle registration listed the owner living nearby on Penn Star Lane in South Yarmouth. Patrol Officers Magnuson and McGrath arrived at that location and found the female operator and the Honda. The operator was identified as 31-year-old Sadie Crane (right) of South Yarmouth. A box of 16 gauge shotgun ammunition rounds were located inside the vehicle. Crane was subsequently placed under arrest for possession of a sawed-off shotgun, unauthorized possession of a firearm, unauthorized possession of ammo, and receiving stolen property and was transported to Yarmouth Police Headquarters.
Patrol Officer Cheverie returned to the Carter Road neighborhood and met with a citizen who advised him that while Patrol Officer Cheverie was chasing the suspect, the female operator removed an object from the vehicle and hid it under a nearby trailer. Patrol Officer Cheverie checked under the trailer and located the loaded sawed off shotgun and several rounds of additional 16 gauge shotgun ammunition.
All evidentiary items have been secured and will be analyzed at the Massachusetts State Police Crime Lab. Both suspects have been arraigned in the Barnstable District Court and additional felony charges are expected.

Two injured in Centerville crash
Two people were injured in a rear-end collision on Route 28 in Centerville.
CENTERVILLE - At about 2:00 p.m. Tuesday Centerville Fire and Barnstable Police responded to a 2-car rear-ender with injuries on Route 28 in Centerville just across from the MSPCA Animal Shelter. The car that rear-ended the other car was left in the right travel lane towards Old Stage Road and the rear-ended car wound up in the driveway of the shelter. This created a traffic jam in both directions. Two people from the rear-ended car were taken to Cape Cod Hospital. There have been several crashes in the area since the road (Route 28) was widened to two lanes in each direction between Old Stage Road and Phinney's Lane several years ago.

Unreal...I feel bad for the hard working CC'ers who have to breathe the same oxygen as these people.I tip my hat to the Yarmouth PD for having to deal with these types that are growing like a virus in Yarmouth.
