Up to his ankles in alligators, in Hyannis Sunday
The tourist season begins with an unusual Southern visitor

   This 3 foot long, 60 pound alligator was captured Sunday in Hyannis. Anyone have a good recipe?

“Never insult an alligator until after you have crossed the river (or street)”

alli-2_428HYANNIS - Around 2 p.m.  Sunday afternoon, a 3 foot alligator was found under a car on Hiramar Road in Hyannis.

Authorities assume it was either a pet that got away or was deliberately released by its owner after growing too large to handle.

Barnstable Natural Resources on Phinneys Lane was called and safely removed the monster to their Phinneys Lane compound. 

Barnstable Natural Resources Officer Thomas Murray used a pole with a noose to remove the alligator then caged the 60-pound reptile in a large plastic carrier shown here.

The unwelcome visitor will be picked up Monday by staff from New England Reptile and Raptor Rehabilitation in Taunton. On the right is a Natural Resources Officer bringing the caged critter into the garage. Massachusetts has tough laws about owning wild and exotic pets. Owning an alligator is illegal here, but neighboring states allow it.

Recipe for Alligator Balls

1 lb Chopped alligator meat
1 Egg
1 tb Finely chopped onions
1 tb Finely chopped celery
1 tb Finely chopped parsley
2 tb Finely chopped shallots
2 ts Lemon pepper
1/2 ts Salt
1/4 c Bread crumbs
1 c Cooking oil
Flour to dredge

Combine all ingredients, form 1 inch diameter balls, allow to set one hour. Dredge in flour and fry till brown. Serve hot.  -Recipe courtesy of Best Read Guide Orlando.  See the entrée with an inset of how he'll look sautéed.
