Motorcyclist killed in Hyannis

A motorcyclist was killed after crashing into this tree which was turned into a makeshift memorial.
HYANNIS - A motorcyclist was killed in a crash in Hyannis early Thursday. The crash happened around 1:15 a.m. at the intersection of South and Sea Streets. Moped rider seriously injured in Oak Bluffs
OAK BLUFFS
- A moped rider was seriously injured in Oak Bluffs on Martha's Vineyard around 1:20 a.m. Thursday. Reports say the moped driven by 22-year old Douglas Reid crashed into a tree on County Road. He was taken to the Vineyard Hospital and then flown to a Boston hospital.

Power lines spark brush fire
WELLFLEET
- High tension power lines in Wellfleet arcing possibly after a nearby lightning strike around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday apparently sparked a brush fire off Gross Hill Road. Lights flickered across the Outer Cape and scattered outages were reported in the immediate area. NStar crews were called to repair the damage. Wellfleet Fire tells CWN the original call was for the sound of an explosion at the sub-station on Gross Hill Road. First arriving units found a small fire burning around the bases of three poles carrying the high voltage line from the sub-station. The area was secured until NStar could arrive to confirm that there was no electrical hazard. Firefighters protected one home near the fire from the spreading flames. By the time that NStar arrived, the fire had grown to about 100 feet by 100 feet. Crews extinguished the fire with help from a Truro forestry unit and a crew from the Cape Cod National Seashore who are incidentally being deployed Thursday to California to help with the fires in the Big Sur area.

NStar personnel on scene theorized that a power surge or lighting strike downstream  in Provincetown or Truro might have over-energized the line and caused arcing at one of the switches, causing a bit of molten aluminum to drop from the line, igniting the fire. Fire officials say the NStar technician found some evidence of pitting or arcing at the switch just above the origin of the fire. No slag or metal was found on the ground.

Two crashes in same spot in Hyannis
HYANNIS - Barnstable Police and Hyannis Fire were called to two crashes that occurred at the same time near the intersection of Barnstable Road and Center Street Wednesday. In the first crash, a car and SUV collided sending two people to Cape Cod Hospital. As crews were clearing that crash, two pickup trucks collided. No one was injured in second crash. Traffic was slowed until both crashes were cleared. At right: a Barnstable police officer reportedly explains to one of the pickup truck drivers why he is being cited for the crash.

I thought you could not get a hotel in cc if you were a resident of the town?
These hotels need to be torn down, so we can try to build hotels that people might want to stay in ON VACATION. Unreal......you wonder why tourists are skipping coming to cc...."Man arrested for fifth OUI"....what the *(*&^ does one have to do to go to jail?

Welcome to Cape Cod..
Where some residents are too complacently rich to care.
Where too many drink, drug, and create mayhem at our expense..repeatedly..
Where some of us live, work, and raise our families all on Cape Cod..

Where the elitists spend their lives bemoaning the upsurge of capitalism, while enjoying its fruits, and wish for the demise of all of us..except themselves..
of course...

maverick..

it IS the residents...

how quaint..

Unfortunately, marco, you can send these scofflaws to jail, revoke their licenses for life and they STILL don't get it. It doesn't matter what the legal system does or doesn't do to them. If they want to drink and drive, they will find a way and we will keep footing the bills for higher insurance rates and public defense attorneys, as well as for damages to our homes, vehicles and to ourselves. *Sigh*....the drunks have all the rights in the world and the hard working, paycheck to paycheck living public gets all the crap, as usual. Go figure.

posse, I think too complacently poor to care is also a problem. Like Sean Hannity said "Americas poor are in good shape". Actually, if you think about it, many cape cod residents are irrelevant and completely useless to our society. Eastern Europeans and other people from all over the world are working in places poor should be working....the mid cape has as many social problems as any inner city, section 8, having too many kids, bringing mega problems to our school systems, ect ect ect. You are right about the capitalist inheritied elite(lets face it, very few with wealth actually came from nothing), they could not care less, only when we carry their bags at CC national golf course, or serve them some food at and they hope we mess up, so they can vent their power at us! I wonder if people in France in about 1788 were talking like this about the "elite" buying 500, 000 paintings while 90% of the country was starving.

The car crash in Harwich happened where I walk my dog every morning. The cars fly through Harwich Center at all hours of the day. I walked my dog 40 minutes before the accident. I am always nervous that a car will hit us on thast streach of road. Lucky for me I decided to walk the dog early today!

Fletcher - I hope you and your dog walk against the traffic so you can get out of the way if need be.

We always walk against the traffic. The other week we nearly got hit in Harwich Center crossing the street using the clearly marked cross walk. A truck stopped for us and as we walked across a car came speeding through from the other direction. The old lady that was driving had no idea I was there. I had to pull my dog out of the way of the car. I yelled at her but it made no difference she continued down Great Western Road. I have had many issues with the cross walks in the center. Very few people stop. I always make sure the road is clear before I cross but drivers don't really care. One of these days I will get hit.

When you see see 5th 6th 7th Offense OUI the arrest number for OUI is always higher. The judge usually allows them a not guilty on at least 1 to 3.
