Our Patriotic DUTY TO DISSENT
Basic freedoms and the corresponding responsibilities
- USDoD

This is the title of a brochure I picked up at a recent conference in Iowa.  It was published in 1965 by the Defense Department “regarding basic freedoms and the corresponding responsibilities.” In the interest of space, I’ll include only the ones currently most relevant, with the freedoms and responsibilities separated by a semicolon.

•  Freedom of religion, speech, press and assembly;  Responsibility for tolerance of the beliefs of others.

•  Freedom of movement at home and abroad;  Responsibility to respect the rights and customs of others.

•  Freedom for educational, social, political and economic opportunity with equal protection under the law;  Responsibility to assure equal opportunities and to further individual and national well-being.

•  Freedom to choose one’s own occupation and to bargain with employers and employees;  Responsibility to contribute useful production and to resolve differences on a fair and just basis.

•  Freedom from arbitrary government regulation and control;  Responsibility to guard against the granting of arbitrary  powers to government.

•  Freedom from arbitrary search, seizure or detention of person or property and the right to a speedy public trial by an impartial jury;  Responsibility of all citizens to assist, uphold and insure justice, law and order.

•  Freedom from torture, cruel, unusual or degrading punishment or treatment;  Responsibility to maintain vigilance against illegal, unfair or injurious practices.

******************
carl-schurz_261The front of the brochure features a statement made in 1899 by Carl Schurz (on right), the first immigrant member of the U.S. Cabinet:

“Our country, right or wrong.  When right, to be kept right; when wrong to be put right.”

Keep in mind the 1960s DOD guidelines and the advice of Carl Schurz as you celebrate the Fourth of July.

"Freedom from arbitrary government regulation and control,"Freedom from arbitrary search, seizure or detention of person or property" those things have been taken away by the criminal administration in DC right now. "Responsibility of all citizens to assist, uphold and insure justice, law and order" we the people have been doing a terrible job with that one! The greatest country in the world must improve, not sink any further into the 1984 type of Bush bullying. One would think a guy that stole 2 elections would be a little nicer to the people he screwed to get "elected".

Marcopolo was brave enough to post a formal description where our President has forfeited the use of his authority and office, to make things right, And it continues to date. Each daily development proves G Bush,by his own hand, wronged and continues to wrong our country. His followers and the future nominee for president from his party will not be able to redo all that has been done. It will take 30 years to put things right. We are looking at a shipwreck. Need to right that ship, and out of "Harms way" Save the ship, get it to dry dock and send sailing with a whole new crew.
While Bush believers look at all this as if it was meant to be. The thoughts of others favor this leadership. We can't do anything because the shipwreck is facing into the wind. Too strong the wind I say! Too many wronged believers.

Trouble is folks...
No matter which party you choose, and the elected Executive Branch, all will remain the same...
The Repub Legisalture failed miserably under Bush..
the Dems took control over the last 4 years..
and still a mess..
they did nothing as well...
Please recap the last 50 years, and research the actual demise of this nation....
It's all planned accordingly...
..and both parties are in collusion with the real powers behind them..

A few less po'folks will die in an Obamanation than in a McCainnation, and that's something. Repuglicanism needs to die of bad-karma overdose: the Dems will function fine as the rightwingers and the Greens can be the lefties.

"both parties are in collusion" and "the Dems will function fine as the rightwingers." those comments are sadly right on the $$$. I have more respect for W than I do Pelosi and others, nothing is getting done folks.these wars are taking all the $$ we need here in the USA."brave enough" ????? why is everyone scared to talk about this administration???? Where is the Vice Prez? He has not been seen in years, right? Sadly, I think this W really split this country in half, reds vs blue states and I do not think it is going to change.

How about a workshop on Homosexism: the discrimination of homosexuals against heterosexuals and bisexuals, in the belief that homosexuality is superior.

Is this acceptable, i.e. calling someone a breeder?

Or the lack of an image of a straight family on the banner in P-town during Family pride week.

Just curious.

It's not discrimination if they call you a "breeder," because "fa**ot" is still funnier. It's kind of like how the blacks lack a good, derisive term for us white folk.

I feel a certain pride when called a 'breeder', though my ability is declining.
And yes, being called 'a piece of wood' or asked to 'share a fag' is quite funny.
The closest our 'brothers' have is 'cracker', a term which Billie Holiday used in a deliciously derisive manner.
But us Crackers have no 'N' word that now in and of itself qualifies as a 'hate crime' condemning writers such as Hemingway and Conrad to P.C. Purgatory. A word only we 'members of the community' can use, and accuse our 'brothers' of Racism when they merely utter. 'Honky' is just too quaint. Being called a 'white ass honky bitch' is actually a compliment in the Black Gay community in Washington D.C., for instance. Of course, my French Canadian 'Sista's' may or may not agree.
Please call me 'breeder' for a few more years.

Brilliant retort Ned, care to expound on your logic as to why I would leave the country after asking a legitimate question.
