Falmouth Families Celebrate the 4th
Annual Main Street Bike Parade a Patriotic Success
Falmouth's bustling downtown was teeming with the stars and stripes as hundreds of families descended on the village today at 11am to celebrate America's birthday and their sense of community with the annual bike parade sponsored by the Falmouth Village Association.
Led by a police escort and joined by a foot-patrolling Police Chief Anthony Riello, kids from 1 to nearly 100 walked, biked, rolled and scooted from the village green to the Peg Noonan Park as hundreds more watched and cheered in delight.
After the parade, families gathered on the library lawn to share a smile and goodwill. On a day when we celebrate how average citizens and neighbors banded together 232 years ago to secure our freedom, this event reminds us of the power of community as average citizens and neighbors today gathered to celebrate each other.

Troy B.G. Clarkson, a local government professional, grew up in Falmouth and has been deeply involved with the Falmouth community since 1993, when he was first elected to the Board of Selectmen at age 24 and served four terms in Falmouth's corner office, making his mark as a fiscal conservative and outspoken advocate for the integrity of our New England form of government. He writes about the goings on in the Cape's second largest town and offers the perspective of one of the town's longest serving Selectmen.
His formal education in political science at Boston College pales in comparison to his practical learning in the rooms of Town Hall, the stores of Main Street, and the far-reaching vines of local political networks. His column appears in the Falmouth Bulletin weekly.
