Obama and Biden voted for $223 million Bridge to Nowhere earmark instead of funding for Katrina rebuilding

One devoutly hopes the McCain-Palin campaign harps on this incessantly. From an op-ed column by US Senator Jim DeMint, R-S.C., in today's Wall Street Journal --

"... Mrs. Palin also killed the infamous Bridge to Nowhere in her own state. Yes, she once supported the project: But after witnessing the problems created by earmarks for her state and for the nation's budget, she did what others like me have done: She changed her position and saved taxpayers millions. Even the Alaska Democratic Party credits her with killing the bridge.

"When the Senate had its chance to stop the Bridge to Nowhere and transfer the money to Katrina rebuilding, Messrs. Obama and Biden voted for the $223 million earmark, (emphasis added) siding with the old boys' club in the Senate. And to date, they still have not publicly renounced their support for the infamous earmark."

We can match yours for ours...who's got dirt on who.

Rather have Obama and Biden anyday.

Palin and McCain are a sick joke.

The media alleges her misuse of office funds when she's not in office, but watching the kiddie's. What no nanny?

What gets me, is the same prolifers who b!tch about abortions are also the same who b!tch about welfare mothers. Can't have it both ways.

How hard can it be to raise 5 kids, one with a very expensive and time consuming handicap when you have a union guy fisherman husband who works for oil rigs, and also on the state tab collecting a governors paycheck.

Give me a break. And I guess she also pays for a physical trainer so she can keep looking like she never had a child either. Wonder if the bra can keep them up? What do ya think guys? Do you know what 5 kids does to a woman's body? She's no barbie doll.

Obama fundraiser in Somerville, Johnny D's.

Did you know that her husband is part Eskimo? You think it will matter to the Mayflower crowd? Well I guess he's not black, right.

The hypocracy from both sides is ridiculous..
just as the mudslinging goes..
I find it amusing (the silence) when the Dems have the same argument thrown at them regarding voting records..
hey all is fair game in politics.

I am enjoying the battle from both sides.

It will continue to escalate while we still pay the bill..ehh?

Yes, possee. I have to agree, but I'm going to Johnny D's to support Obama/Biden. Did you know that Biden backs the police and fire fighters of this nation? I would think that would make a difference to the yahoos, guess not.

You know, it's like this: Which is the worse of two evils, as the saying goes....I'm always going to vote the Democratic ticket, as long as I like who is running. I use to register as an independent, but that was before I realized that most republicans were never going to help the middle class or poor. So here I am, the socialist-democratic-communist queen! And I love it! Rather be there than with the republican war moguls.

Did you know that LBJ had a urinal in his office....it was his sink. Gotta love those Texans, they are just as crazy as those Alaskans.

So who will you be voting for, Possee?

Maverick,

I don't Walter pays attention anymore, that's why it's not so much fun here. At least in the old days, he'd show some interest in his bloggers, now all we got is twinkies....blahhhhkkkkkk

Katrina was on Bush's clock btw. He's the only one you should blame for what happened to the people who were sent packing to Texas and lost their homes.

Like I said, at least the democratic presidents don't get caught with their pants down in the men's room with young men.

Maybe that is their problem? But you guys think that the democrat's are the only sexual promiscuous and or deviants.......LOL! Maybe if they laid off the booze and shotguns for awhile they wouldn't have so many hangups.

Real gal-of-the-people eh?
And McDermott has joined Kucinich in calling for Bush's impeachment.
Thank God!!!....maybe this nightmare is really truly over. not hoping too hard though...don't want to jinx it.
And my 14 yr.old daughter has an Obama pin on her bag.....I think today I will join her. Obama 08!

Hey, I'll leave you with this one:

I heard today that the ENRON lawyers just got their cut....take a guess...I guessed about 50 mil....think again....total figure was 600 MILLION DOLLARS FOR THE LAWYERS WHO REPRESENTED ENRON....so they could file for bankruptcy and those who planned on their hefty retirements got paid, don't know how much, but it came out of selling off ENRON ASSETS, not the money...so stick that in your McCain - Palin takeover from Bush - Cheney...criminal enterprise...see ya...wouldn't wanna be ya....

I don't know, and I don't know who screwing who in Cape Cod politics either. All I know is there's starting to be a light at the end of a very long, dark tunnel that has been the Republican rule of this country. The claws are coming off the neck, if you know what I mean, and I've been afraid to hope for it.
Still afraid to hope for it, but going to do everything in my power to make it happen. If my kid can get excited about politics, then what the hell, I should too!

And I think it's well known that Palin was for the bridge until it became known that there was an outcry against it, and that Alaska would have to actually spend some money on the project. Clear as a bell.

Now it should be acknowledged that McCain never supports earmarks. How he picks the Governor that requests more per capita in earmarks is amusing. Could be the influence of all the former lobbyists in his campaign? It's not like McCain hasn't sold out on any number of things since his loss in 2000.

You know, I know it's politics, but I read an article about Palin's speech...how it was written by one of W's speech writers. It was written before McCain even picked Palin, and the 2 important themes for the VP were to be.."service to country ahead of career",and "must represent middle America". Then, after McCain picked Palin, they added her personality and history, and there you have it... Made to order VP.
09/11/08 @ 8:53 am
crusader [Member] writes:
Yes, bitter, they have made it abundantly clear--McCain/Palin ticket is another 8 long agonizing years for the shrinking middle-class and scrambling poor. They want to keep their war planes in the air. War makes money and lots of it. It's not enough they have sold out this country to China with the trillion dollar deficit, outsourced all our jobs, closed factories. The internet has been good and bad. A corporation can do business anywhere across the globe via cyberspace, so why not go to an impoverished country and grab more slaves to do the jobs Americans once did?

I wish you and Neddy could have been there last night. It's what some of us needed, to mobilize and get involved. Sure Cambridge/Somerville is an easy win for Obama, but I don't trust the rep. party. They don't want to lose. They just want to keep the New World Power alive and churning. We have to get out and ensure this election is run fairly. Obama has come a long way in this campaign. We can't stop now. Don't listen to the media. They will do anything to stop Obama from winning this election.

How about a fact check: In the fall of 2005, Congress stopped the "earmark" for the bridge project but left it up to Alaska to decide which other transportation projects to spend it on. ie. Alaska was no longer required to build the bridge. Alaska got the money and spent it elsewhere so Sarah Palin didn't exactly say "thanks but no thanks" to Congress - Makes a good line in her speech but that's about it.
