Negative News: Where's the Good Stuff?
Show me those soldiers who return home safe & proud;
Not just a death count of those who sadly did not
It’s tough to stay on top of Cape Cod news when I’m up here in Beverly working my butt off to graduate in the spring. I check out CCToday every morning and skim through the email updates when they come, but I’ve just kind of given up on watching the news. I am just oh so sick of the glorified and gory-fied stories that are all that seem to come from the Cape.
Ok let’s brainstorm. Senator Ted Kennedy had another mild seizure last night. He was rushed to Cape Cod Hospital, rightfully so. About three hours later, he was fortunately released, just in time to catch the first presidential debate. He’s got brain cancer. Has had it since last May. He’s going on 77 years old. A visit to the hospital is kind of a given, isn’t it?
But regardless of his rough shape, Senator Kennedy is still working from his Hyannisport home, communicating daily with the Senate, and having international guests visit. This in and of itself is a feat for what this man is currently dealing with. When will we hear about this positive news from the Kennedy Compound? Whether or not you’re a supporter of Uncle Ted, you are most likely rooting for his recovery. Right? Well I would hope so anyway.
I’m irritated by all the negatives that television news is feeding us. Why should I only care about the ‘oh nos!’ and the tear-jerking stories from the Cape—and from anywhere and everywhere? It’s not just the local stations either. It’s all the local and national news stations spoon-feeding us all these terrorizing tidbits of information. Where’s the good stuff? I know that this country is not overflowing with drunk driving accidents, shootings, rapes, murders, kidnappings, and soldiers dying.
Of course, these things do happen and are happening. But what about the lost-but-found 7-year-old girls, or the school shootings that were prevented in time to save uncountable lives, or the thousands of soldiers that return home and are healthy and proud? These things happen and are happening too, maybe even more often.
What about the convalescing Ted Kennedys as opposed to the hospitalized ones?

I think it's very important that people in general realize this as association is very influential and if someone reads enough bad news without the proper insight they will undoubtedly
develop depression.
If the amount of despair (even to the point of suicide) that the public has acquired over the years because of this policy could be measured, it would be enourmous.
Should we blame? Of course not because some things will always have a pattern. Speeders will always speed and people who visit bars or nightclubs will always get behind the wheel to go home.
EDUCATION is the answer. I think people should always be taught never to take things at face value. Try giving that to Rupert Murdoch.
Bad news sells newspapers (and makes people tune in to the news.
It just may happen this year !
Having worked at our local hospital in CASA GRANDE, ARIZONA, I was able to meet with so many brave wonderful people. Also tell him some guy who had stayed in Hyannisport in 1950, who immigrated from Brooklyn, N.Y.to Arizona noted that he cares.
My view is I am not in favor of this bail out. We have to be very cautious. The Wall Street insecurity might warrant China to call in their notes to be paid. That appears to be the most crucial financial worry. Let AIG call on other countries to carry their load. We can't live on Plastic credit any more. AIG made plenty of money from their interest received. It is pay back time to the America People.
I, in my own way has always looked up to Senator Ted Kennedy, and the Kennedy family.
Caroline's book,"Patriots handbook to motivate High School students to read out loud about famous people. A great text book. My thoughts are with Senator Kennedy in my support.
A Marine from here in Arizona, having served 5 tours of duty. Unable to cope with civilian life re-enlisted to serve the additional two tours of duty. Finally came home to stay. His family life was completely shattered. Suffered from Post Traumatic syndrome. Drove up to the Grand Canyon. Turned away, raced out until he hit a tree. The police were on his tail. Our Marine put a bullet into his brother's head sitting next to him. got out and waved a gun at the Police and they shot him.
He should not have been allowed to return home. $200,000 dollars or more, that G. bush requires to build a library, should instead be used to build a country club resort for returning Veterans to find peace in themselves. A plane right from the killing fields to civilian living life is far to little time needed to regain control of their lives. So many suicides coming out of Iraq and Afganistan, also desertion. Our military are not expendable.
You are 100% correct!
We give away 100's of billions and billions more to governments, failed banks and insurance agencies, yet send our troops to defend our country and reward them with nothing when they return..
shame on our entire government !
This ridiculous bailout bill should've been appropriated to all of us who work and our veterans..period
Not some Wall Street cronies!

We distributed a cheerful new newspaper a few years ago called The Cape Cod Optimist.
It was full of good news, all upbeat, all positive.
But nobody picked it up to read even though it was FREE !
It's simply human nature, Sam, and as Charlotte Bronte said, "It is in vain to say human beings ought to be satisfied with tranquility: they must have action; and they will make it if they cannot find it."
