DJ takes fight with DA online

barry_scott_212Longtime Boston DJ Barry Scott is fighting to clear his name. The host of "The Lost 45s" on Oldies 103.3 has created a website proclaiming his innocence in his continuing battle with Provincetown police and Cape and Islands DA Michael O'Keefe.
During the summer, Scott was found guilty of resisting arrest at a house party in P'town. Scott says he was beaten up by police and the charges were bogus. He plans to appeal. "Someone has to hold the police accountable," said Scott. Prosecutor Tara Miltimore told us she stands by her case. "He had a jury trial and the jury convicted him," she said.

MASS. MARKET:
Charting responsible course for use of ocean power

The ocean is once again playing an increasingly critical role in our state's economy thanks to the emergence of offshore energy projects in the past decade.  Giant windmills, tidal-powered electricity turbines and liquefied natural gas terminals have all been proposed for the waters off the coast. They have had varying degrees of success so far, and more energy projects targeting the seas inevitably will be proposed in the coming years.

There's one big problem with this water grab. While every acre of land in the state has been plotted on a zoning map that spells out specific allowable uses, no such chart exists for state waters that extend to three miles off the shore.  But that map is on its way - and you can have a say in how it's drawn...

Not surprisingly, the ocean management plan can be traced back to the state's most controversial offshore project, Cape Wind. Concerns about the proposed 130-turbine wind farm for Nantucket Sound prompted Sen. Robert O'Leary of Barnstable seven years ago to set about trying to end the state's patchwork approach to regulating its ocean waters. His efforts culminated in the bill that landed on Gov. Deval Patrick's desk in the spring.

EPA Won't Regulate Rocket Fuel Toxins in Drinking Water

Perchlorate, a toxic component of rocket fuel that contaminates drinking water at sites in at least 35 states, will not be regulated at the national level the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has decided.
The agency announced its preliminary decision not to regulate perchlorate in drinking water late Friday. Instead, the EPA said in a statement that it is "committed to working with states and localities to ensure public health is protected."
"States have the right to establish and enforce drinking water standards" the EPA said.
In Massachusetts, the chemical has been found in groundwater plumes issuing from the Massachusetts Military Reservation on Cape Cod... ENS.

The Patrick administration began holding a series of 18 meetings last month to solicit input from the public. Attendance has been modest so far: The first meeting at Faneuil Hall in Boston drew nearly 50 people, and only a handful of folks spoke at each of the three meetings on the South Shore during the past week... Babb-Brott says three big projects are far enough along that they will be grandfathered under old rules. They include Cape Wind, along with an LNG terminal that Excelerate opened this year and another one that Suez is building.

All three projects involve federal waters beyond the three-mile border, although pipelines and power lines connected to those and similar projects would need to traverse state waters. That means similar projects could be regulated by the plan to the extent they'll need permission to connect to the shore... Patriot Ledger.

Cape Cod offers rail alternative to Boston could run in a year
It's a "no brainer" and would connect Cape with Casino

A Cape Cod connection is a "no brainer," especially with a proposed casino in Middleboro. "We'd connect the Cape Cod resort community to the gambling resort."
              - John Kennedy

A Cape Cod railroad is offering a short-term solution to the state's rail proposal that it claims could be up and running within a year.  John Kennedy, president and chief executive officer of Cape Cod Central Railroad, plans to submit a proposal in two weeks to the Executive Office of Transportation which would restore rail service from Cape Cod to Boston.

Cape Cod Central currently operates freight trains to Wareham, and has rights to tracks to New Bedford and Fall River. Kennedy says that for under $5 million in private and public investment, his company can restore commuter service from Hyannis through Wareham to the Lakeville/Middleboro station... Patriot Ledger.

Giving $5 million to a railroad which has never been profitable is a waste of tax payer funds. Setting aside whether commuter service makes sense, the taxpayer has a right to know whether the CCCR has a proven "track record". For the past 10 years it's been the folly of a parade of wealthy backers. Let's see their financial statements and determine whether this company can run its own business profitably before it is given tax payer money.

the railroad is the greatest mode of transportation its not on a highway, there are no traffic jams , everybody is stress free for work and as you are traveling the scenery is great, there should be a direct route to south station from the cape the schedule should run it 24 hrs a day. I bet everybody would leave there cars at home! a train can even run in a blizzard we could have passes being from the cape and incentives for taking the train. THE NAME OF THE TRAIN IS THE SOUTHEAST EXPRESS!

I hope that this proposal gets taken seriously. Surely there must be many other retirees who like us would love to have an easier way to get to museums, sporting events, concerts, etc. than the long drive to parking lot Hades. It would be a real life enhancer.

Commuter rail service works only if the travel time and/or cost is less than the alternative drive. Commuter rail from anywhere this side of the Canal is neither.

Ocean13- you are nuts. No MBTA trains run 24 hours a day to start including the much more populated Boston subway system.
