Bail hearing for accused rapist; two OUI related arrests; Speeding car carrier

Carrier with 2 police vehicles clocked doing 83mph. mystery solved

dpd-10-23-8_600

dpd-10-23-8-450_450DENNIS
- Around 2 p.m. Thursday this car carrier with two Police Department vehicles aboard  (one atop and one being towed) was clocked at 83 mph on Route 6 heading east at the Dennis-Harwich line.

The carrier was speeding so fast that our reporter and two others in the car only caught a glimpse of the markings which appeared to be "Dennis" although that department's cruisers are no longer black, but the license plate number was POLICE 10 T and the Police van on top was registered to POLICE 448 E.

MHQ Municipal Headquarters Vehicles Inc. is an embarrassment to police

Any tow truck company believing they are exempt from the laws governing our highways because of the Police Cargo they are carrying, putting people at risk, should be cited and their insurance rating questioned. The hundreds of people who witnessed this idiot yesterday will blame local police in error.

We know now that the carrier dropped the van (448 E) at Yarmouth AFTER it had delivered the cruiser (10 T) somewhere on the Outer Cape.

The van was the only vehicle being transported by the carrier when the van was delivered at the Yarmouth Police Department. The truck was operated by MHQ Municipal Headquarters Vehicles Inc. of Marlborough, a private company that says it's the largest supplier of police and emergency vehicles in the world. Their telephone number is 508-573-260.

Bail hearing held for accused rapist
Police say Wareham man assaulted 16-year-old male

BREWSTER - Robert Lewis, 42, of Wareham, who has been charged with raping a male teenager, was scheduled to appear at Orleans District Court Thursday morning for a bail hearing.

Lewis was arrested by Brewster police on Route 6 in Brewster on Tuesday evening following an investigation by Det. Paul Judge. Police have charged him with two counts of rape and indecent assault and battery on a person 14 years of age or older.

Brewster police learned of the case last week when the victim reported the alleged assaults. Police said the victim, who was 16 at the time of the incidents, worked for Lewis for a period of time in 2007.

Following his investigation, Detective Judge obtained an arrest warrant for Lewis. With assistance from the Dennis and Wareham police, the detective found Lewis traveling on Route 6 in Brewster. The state police assisted with a traffic stop of the vehicle.

Lewis was placed under arrest and was taken to the Brewster police station for booking. He was arraigned Wednesday in Orleans District Court, where he pleaded not guilty.

Two overnight OUI related arrests in Yarmouth

ypdmugshots_pistole_zahigia_479YARMOUTH - Wednesday evening at 6:23 p.m., 26-year-old Jennifer Pistole of West Yarmouth was arrested after a hit-and-run accident at Route 6A and Manchester Road in Yarmouth Port.

Pistole was taken into custody following the crash and charged with OUI, Leaving the Scene of a Crash, Unlicensed Operation and Failure to Yield at an Intersection.

In another OUI-related arrest, 27-year-old Michael V. Zahigian of Barnstable was stopped by a Yarmouth officer on Paula Lane in West Yarmouth at 1:45 a.m. Thursday morning.

Zahigian had an active warrant for operating under the influence and was taken into custody.

Both Pistole and Zahigian will be arraigned Thursday morning in Barnstable District Court.

First, why is this news? Second, who is also speeding trying to clock a tow truck? Third, I didn't realized that police drove tow trucks? This site has gone down hill. Give me a break.

We have other unpublished photos to back up this claim.

As mentioned earlier, car carriers are independent operators and NOT operated by the police. I'm sure if law enforcement saw them speeding, they would have stopped him.

I hope your reporter was NOT driving while taking pictures? Now that, would be reason for alarm.

Not suprising,One of our local (Eastham) towtruck drivers just about ran me off the road last week-went right past the state police parked in the grass-guess they're exempt...Depends on who you know...

Cops driving tow trucks? Maybe they drive moving trucks, too? And the MSP just sit back and observe. Everyone knows the tow trucks have a relationship with the uniforms.

The report didn't state the police were driving the van, only that two registered police vehicles were being towed at greatly, excessive speeds on a dangerous highway.
Route 6 is in the State Police jurisdiction, not the local department's.

cause they're busy bustin' heroin dealers- but seriously wasn't the photo more of an attempt to bash the police?? I must ask this in seriousness- HOW was this tow truck clocked to verify that the speed is accurate-or was this some sort of "guestimate" on the reporters part?

Buzz [Member] writes:
CCT,

Still waiting to hear if the "reporter" was driving while he took the pictures?

Also, how was the operator "clocked" at 83? Does that mean the "reporter" was driving 83? How else could he/she have clocked them? Enquiring minds want to know.

When were Dennis' cruisers black?! They've been all white for many years.

And, if your three eyewitnesses were wrong about the cruisers saying "DENNIS" on the side, how accurate can they be about the speed?

I'd like to make a prediction: this "news story" won't appear on these pages much longer, "so as not to embarrass a specific" blog and it's staff.

sounds as though this here blog HAS stimulated much of a conversation! Whadya know?! Keep up the good work! Making YOU talk is what THEY are here for :) Cheers!

Mav- not suggesting they weren't speeding at all-actually, not really surprised that they were- just curious how the reported 83 mph was verified that's all-
Stanner-Back in the day, Dennis PD was navy and white if my old feeble memory serves me correctly
Sam, it's the 1st real conversation I've seen on this blog since the big "break-up"-AND generated by multiple inaccuracies-
Surprised no-one threw out MHQ's name earlier-
Finally-Murr- it's woulda been pretty funny if that were the case.

It is amazing how the story changed on the website but the editor deleted the part which was completely wrong. as an editor you need to come forward and make sure people know you messed up. o one is going to believe you when you change the story after you report it. Did you turn in your reporters going over 80MPH in the alley. If you want to hold the tow truck driver responsible set an example make public the people employed by you going over 80 risking everyone else's life like the tow truck.

Everyone needs to stop complaining about speeding, because if any of you can sit there and honestly say you have never gone over the speed limit you are a big fat liar.

Verizon,

just wondering, do you ever read the ny times online? probably not, as cctoday is far better. BUT if you ever have, you may have noticed that with every new bit of updated info, the story will change! It's remarkably GOOD journalism to keep your stories accurate and post the latest info-- there's breaking news all the time on cctoday, so what a great feature to have. Some communication studies have even found that this new online journalism is better than traditional because each story is like a draft; always changing, always being updated, which means constant breaking news for the reader like YOU! It's a wonderful thing.

Jobuli, By the way, I think this conversation is simply fabulous, regardless of your petty criticisms.

Did the Dennis Police Dept and others maligned in this story receive emails and phone calls from the staff at CCToday apoligizing for the innacuracies?

2 things in regards to this:
1 Sam I don't have a problem with changing the story as the NOW see it. Where is the apology for the PD's that had nothing to do with it but this online paper blamed. 2 how is this police or fire news? Taking cheap shots at the PD's are quit common if you are affiliated with the CCT. Now I know why Tim left...

Wow! You CLOCKED a speeder? Why didn't you give him a ticket, as you write as if you've been trained to do also. Wow, a "computer news" guy is trained to "clock" a motorist. You know: if the cops pulled this driver over for travelling at speeds that MOST PEOPLE DRIVE, that driver would get a ticket. Mr. geeky, busy-body computer news "editor" doesn't want the driver to get a ticket--he wants that driver fired! That driver's family ruined! This site has really started to suck. WHy don't you CLOCK my mouse fingers to Cape Cod Times!!!
