Yarmouth weekend arrests; Falmouth sergeant completes course at Roger Williams U

292 Yarmouth police service calls this weekend; 22 result in criminal charges

Weekend OUI arrests include two for second offense and one for fourth

YARMOUTH - The Yarmouth Police Department had a rather busy Halloween weekend responding to 292 service calls.  Of those calls, from Friday evening to early yarmouthpd_patch_147Monday morning, 22 resulted in criminal charges including aggravated assault and operating under the influence.

On Friday, Halloween night at 8:44 p.m., Joel S. Gomez of 212 Upper County Road in Dennisport was arrested on Station Avenue in South Yarmouth and charged with aggravated assault and intimidation of a government witness.  Less than a half hour later at 9:10 p.m., Ryan P. Meehan of 79 Weir Road in Yarmouth Port was also arrested and charged with intimidation of a government witness. 

The rest of the weekend saw several arrests for operating under the influence including two second-time offenses and one fourth-time offense. 

At 1:49 p.m., early Saturday morning, Brian L. Kelley of 52 5th Avenue in Hyannisport was arrested and charged with a OUI Liquor 2nd Offense on Higgins Crowell Road in West Yarmouth.  Less than one half hour later at 2:16 a.m.,  Scott D. Bertrand of 462 Rock Hill Road in Florence, Mass., was arrested and charged with OUI Liquor on Route 28 in South Yarmouth.  Vincent Smith of 60 Stevens Street in Hyannis was arrested and charged with OUI Liquor on Route 28 in West Yarmouth  at 1:53 a.m. early Sunday morning.

At 12:45 a.m., early Monday morning, Yarmouth police nabbed Daniel B. Hughes Jr. of 4 Bliscott Avenue in South Yarmouth.  Hughes was arrested and charged with Felony OUI Liquor 4th Offense.

Also Monday morning, James R. Barry of 1566 Tremont Street in Roxbury was arrested and charged with OUI Liquor on Route 6A in Yarmouth Port and at 2:07 a.m., Amy MacDonal of 229 Route 6A in Orleans was nabbed and charged with OUI Liquor 2nd Offense on Iroquois Boulevard in West Yarmouth.

Falmouth sergeant completes mid-management course at Roger Williams

BRISTOL - The Justice System Training and Research Institute at Roger Williams University in Bristol, R.I., in partnership with the New England Association of Chiefs of rogerwilliamsu_171Police, recently recognized Sergeant Douglas DeCosta of the Falmouth Police Department for the successful completion of the "Command Training Series: Mid-Management Course," a two-week comprehensive training program for police mid-level supervisory personnel.

Coursework addressed contemporary concepts of management and leadership relevant to the responsibilities of a middle manager in a modern criminal justice agency. The program, presented by experienced academics and law enforcement practitioners between October 20 and October 31, 2008, discussed topics including operational leadership and management principles, emotinal intelligence, data analysis, planning and project management, labor issues and legal research, organizational culture and change management, understanding the budget process, and contemporary and critical issues.

Graduates of the session represented police departments from throughout New England and included Sergeant DeCosta.

Roger Williams University is a regional, liberal arts university offering undergraduate and graduate programs in the arts and sciences, architecture, business, construction management, education, engineering, historic preservation, justice studies, legal studies, public administration, visual arts studies, and law. The university enrolls more than 4,000 students at the main campus in Bristol, R.I., The Roger Williams University School of Law, and at the Providence Metropolitan Center for Education and Law, and is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges.

I think after your 2nd conviction they should take your car, bring it to a public location and let the public pay 5 bucks a whack with a sledge hammer.They should also bring the person and let him watch the rest of us have fun beating the $hit out of his car.
