9 of 10 Bay Staters endorse Cape Wind in a dozen towns

Cape Wind wins 87 percent of vote in ballot question
Braintree, Holbrook, Randolph, Cohasett, Hingham, Holbrook Hull, Marshfield, Scituate, Hanover, Norwell and Rockland back wind farm

Eighty-seven percent of voters in eleven Massachusetts towns on the South Shore voted Yes on Question 4, a non-binding question that read:

Should the state representative from this district be instructed to vote in favor of legislation that would support the development of Cape Wind in Nantucket Sound and other possible future onshore and offshore wind power developments in Massachusetts?

73,548 of the 85,430 voters who answered this question answered Yes.

Results consistent with other recent statewide polls
This is consistent with two independent public opinion surveys carried out in March, 2008 that each found 86-percent statewide support for Cape Wind. One of these surveys was conducted by CBS-4 Boston and the other was commissioned by Civil Society Institute (CSI). CSI also found support for Cape Wind on Cape Cod and the Islands to be 74 percent.

Question 4 on Cape Wind was included in the ballots of Massachusetts voters in the towns of: Braintree, Holbrook, Randolph, Cohasett, Hingham, Hull, Marshfield, Scituate, Hanover, Norwell and Rockland.

Several citizens organizations active in those communities worked together to compose the language of the question and to gather the necessary signatures to get the question on the ballot, including: Sustainable Braintree, Sustainable Hanover, Sustainable Cohasset, Sustainable Scituate, and Hingham REACH Wind Committee.

Too bad Jim Gordon doesn't have any turbines. Obviously Earl Devaney does not vote on the South shore.

What is the support percentage on Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard? Just curious. Thanks.

Interesting....if people on the South Shore support wind power generally but do not support Cape Wind in par6ticular, they could not vote in a way that would so indicate. Another nice job by the folks from the Fraudi Arabia of wind.

By the way, Richard Elrick last night described Dr. Eli Brukner as an "old codger." At least the "codger" never failed a drug test.

Peter... Wonder why no one is listening to you?

Go figure.

mav... Not sure about MV but @ the last MMS public hearing once you eliminated the off island detractors (the D'alliance) & the supporters (CPN) that attended...

It was AMAZING & gratifying to note the turnabout from the days of the Army Corps hearings (66%+ against) to now more like 75%: FOR the project.

Christy before you started blogging here and before Ted got the brain tumor, ragging on EMK was the chief form of ribaldry amongst the 'High-Fivers' here... those being men of little accomplishment and less self-worth. It's in the innate nature of blog-comment spawned by the innovation we know as the internet... weak-willed malcontents cannot resist the siren song of the medium itself...

thanks Ned---as regards the vote on the south shore, I lived there for over thirty years. Those towns battled anything together; Greenbush commuter rail, natural gas facility off of hull. That CW is no where in sight they're for it. There was even a battle for the second on-land windturbine in Hull.

I heard RFK Jr was being considered to head the EPA. If he does I'd expect that would be the end of placing anything in the Sound. Regardless, the new President owes the Kennedy family so I expect the new administration will find a way to preserve its "greenness" while opposing the project.

Christy go choke on one of your unhealthy woopie pies...

It will be the END OF TED's attempts to irresponsibly influence the review & permitting of CAPE WIND...

Once Obama & Deval will see to it (if Bush hasn't already) that the project will be built...

At least these two have the foresight & integrity to do the right thing for the country...

Instead of selfishly claiming Nantucket Sound for their own.

So, if you don't choke on it... Stick it where the sun don't shine...

And if Deval leaves for DC...

Hey, take another run @ the state office...

That should be even more funny than the last time!

What's your ~excuse~?

Heh heh, excuses, excuses. I may have been a little harsh regarding the HighFivers last nite and yet... you know who you are. I'm an invited blogger and I have needed to enforce an upgrade in the level of discourse... and practice my structuring of sentences. Speaking of which, the middle sentence below seems clumsy... is that a Split Infinitive?

Ummm smahkcep do you blog under a different name? This is like poker as I see it... blogger beats commenter even if commenter has been commenting longer. As for payment, maintaining a blog is useful in selfpromotion and is easier than updating an actual personal website... that is the extent of the compensation. When I post on other blogsites I give a link to Here... but I dunno how fascinating the goldfish bowl we call the Cape Cod community actually is to Outsiders...

I don't. Been offered on more than one occassion & been thrown off more than once too...

For all intents a blogger & commenter are interchangable descriptions of one and the same I believe...

I realize you are special, and for the most part, at least somewhat entertaining; so the self-promoting aspect is curiously absent monetary remuneration for the wealth of intellectual prowess you profess.

Facinating.

Buzz... WARNING: Stop picking on cruz!

She is -connected- ya know.

Yeeeah except Bloggers create articles that Commentors comment on... sort of a smallscale version of Filmmakers vs Film Critics. Nowww... "so the self-promoting aspect is curiously absent monetary remuneration for the wealth of intellectual prowess you profess." That might work as a phrase if you chop the '-ly' off 'curious', changing the gerund to an adjective. 'Absent' then changes from an adjective to a preposition. Dunno if that conveys the point you're trying to make, though.
