BULLETIN: First Night Chatham evening events cancelled

Fireworks rescheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday, New Year's Day

Due to severe weather conditions and high winds, Chatham public safety officials Wednesday afternoon cancelled all First Night Chatham events scheduled after 6 p.m. Afternoon activities are still on until that time.

Fireworks are rescheduled for New Year's Day at 6:00 p.m. over the Oyster Pond, according to the First Night Chatham Committee.

It was a beautiful night! We walked and walked and only saw 4 people. To bad that they canceled the event. I told a friend in Canada about the few inches and the cancellation. He Laughed and said if they did that up here there would be nothing to do ever. Kids would never go to school in the winter. With surprise he added, only in America would they cancel New Years Eve! Sadly I had to agree. I now realize that weather is also on our terrorist watch list! Congrats Chatham! Where do I get my refund?

I gave Chatham jazz singer Cheryl Kain a ride to Naomi Turner's dance-and-song revue at the Chatham Drama Guild for the 5pm Show which was the only thing NOT cancelled and was blown away by the quality. Naomi took a large group of folks of various ages, orientations, body types and degrees of experience(a fella who'd never been on stage before was jaw-droppingly good)and produced a revue-with cool costumes! that was QUITE satisfying to this flu-ridden jaded exManhattanite. Especially that piano-playing Cheryl Kain in her glittery Torrid leggings...
