Falmouth Police nab armed robbery suspect; Applicants sought for Bourne Citizens Police Academy

Falmouth Police nab armed robbery suspect

Thief had prior larceny conviction in 2008

FALMOUTH - Around 11:40 a.m. on Friday, Falmouth police officers responded to an armed robbery report at the Cumberland Farms on Main Street. Officers were given a description of the suspect and the direction in which he fled the store.  The entire available shift in addition to two off-duty officers working a paid detail cordoned off the area in and around Alma Road near Worcester Court.

The officers tracked down and apprehended the suspect who was identified as Jeremiah J. Vidito,30, 0f Falmouth.  Cash stolen during the armed robbery and other evidence of the crime was recovered by the officers.

Vidito's arraignment for armed robbery is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. on Monday, January 12, 2009 in Falmouth District Court.

Vidito is no stranger to crime, robbery more specifically.  In October of 2008, an August 2008 larceny from a building charge was dismissed in Falmouth but he was found guilty on a charge of larceny over $250, and sentenced to two years in a correctional facility with six months to serve.  The balance was suspended with two years probation and he received 40 days credit for time served.

Applications are currently available at the Police Station at 175 Main Street in Buzzards Bay and online.  The deadline for submission is March 1, 2009.   The department is expecting a great deal of interest in this year's academy and suggests that serious applications submit the completed form as soon as possible.

The academy will cover the basics of police procedure and will be held Monday evenings from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. beginning March 30, 2009 and run through June 15, 2009.
