Icy road alert for Monday morning; Firefighters quickly knock down fire in Yarmouth; Truck plunges into icy Plymouth waters

Firefighters quickly knock down fire in West Yarmouth neighborhood

WEST YARMOUTH - At 1:30 p.m. Saturday, firefighters were called to a fire reported by a neighbor in the single-story home at 55 Nobby Lane.  By 1:50 p.m., the smoky fire was extinguished, but the cause of the fire had yet to be determined as firefighters continued to keep hot spots in the ceiling under control.

According to neighbors, an elderly man lived alone at the residence.  He was not home during the time of the fire, but returned home as firefighters were working at the scene.

The cause of the blaze is still under investigation.

Truck plunges into icy Plymouth waters

PLYMOUTH - A towing crane hoisted a truck which was submerged in a salt marsh off of Ellisville Road in Plymouth around 11 a.m. Saturday. The driver of the truck escaped serious injuries after the truck he was driving plunged into the icy salt marsh.

It took tow operators using a hoist and crane over an hour to tow the vehicle from the marsh.  The vehicle wound up approximately 50 feet from shore.

Plymouth police are investigating the crash.
