USCG rescues man after icy plunge into Pleasant Bay in Orlean

ORLEANS - It is reported that a 28-year-old male took an icy plunge into Pleasant Bay in Orleans after falling off of a boat Tuesday afternoon.  The man was rescued by a United State Coast Guard helicopter and was flown to Barnstable Municipal Airport where an ambulance was waiting to transport him to Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis for evaluation and treatment. The unidentified male was reportedly suffering from hypothermia and a laceration after falling out of his boat while duck hunting.

OUIs, outstanding warrants and assault top Yarmouth's arrest list this past week

YARMOUTH - During the previous week, the men and women of the Yarmouth Police Department responded to 599 calls of which 34 resulted in arrest.

Early Tuesday morning at 1:18 a.m., Sarah Jean Marion of 116 Camp Street in West Yarmouth was pulled over on Highbank Road in South Yarmouth.  Marion was then placed under arrest for OUI Liquor.  Later that morning at 9:31 a.m., Steven Jefferson Young of 4 Lakeview Drive in Harwich was stopped by Yarmouth Police on Ocean Avenue in South Yarmouth and arrested on an Outstanding Warrant issued by the Harwich Police Department. 

On Wednesday, at 9:07 p.m., Arcenio Lopes Jr. of 102 Parsons Lane in East Falmouth was taken into custody on Route 28 in West Yarmouth and placed under arrest for Domestic Assault and Battery when officers responded to a domestic violence call.

On Thursday morning at 10:56 a.m., Alphee J. Couture of 881 Route 28 (the Cavalier Motel) in South Yarmouth was taken into custody for an Outstanding Warrant issued by the Brookline Police Department during a domestic violence call to that address.

Friday afternoon at 1:45 p.m., Charlene Dyous of 3 Ernest Road in West Yarmouth was taken into custody and charged with Domestic Assault and Battery during a domestic violence call at that address.

Saturday at 1:10 a.m. Tove C. Meehan of 2 Nautical Way in South Dennis was stopped on Route 6 in South Yarmouth and arrested and charged with OUI Liquor.  Later that day, at 1:14 p.m., Michael G. Grace of 23 Webster Road in Plymouth was stopped on Route 6 in West Yarmouth and placed under arrest for Driving with a Revoked License Due to Being a Habitual Traffic Offender.

The strange tale of the Vineyard two-car crash

EDGARTOWN - VineyardToday.com has finally been able to piece together a story about what happened last Thursday when two vehicles collided on a dark and icy dirt road in Edgartown. And it is a strange story to say the least.

According  to police accounts, at approximately 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 8, 22-year-old Joel Martinez was with friends driving south along Meetinghouse Way. Martinez told police that they were traveling about 20 mph down the icy road when headlights appeared in the rearview mirror. Moments later the car was rear-ended, spinning around into the opposite lane, coming to rest on the shoulder. The other vehicle kept going.

It did not get far, however, crashing into the woods about 100 yards up the road.

All three occupants of the VW were transported to the Hospital with minor neck and back injuries. The driver of the pickup truck might have also gone to the hospital if he or she had stuck around long enough. The truck had been stolen earlier that night from a house on West Tisbury Road.

Police interviewed the owner of the truck, Ed Silveira, and determined he had been in Oak Bluffs at the time of the crash. Whoever was driving faces serious charges including larceny of a vehicle and hit and run with personal injury, both felony charges. Police tell VT that the investigation is ongoing.
