Second search in 28 days yields over $4,000 in illegal drugs

EAST FALMOUTH -Four people were arrested Thursday night after a search warrant was executed by Falmouth Police at 339 Teaticket Highway in East Falmouth.  The warrant, the result of a  five month investigation conducted by the Falmouth Drug Task Force, the Cape Cod Drug Task Force and the Barnstable County Sheriff's Department, was the second issued at the residence in 28 days.

Thursday night authorities searched the home of Duane "Go-Go" Gomez, 34, after several complaints that Gomez was still selling large amounts of cocaine and marijuana out of his residence even after the execution of a drug search warrant on Thursday, March 5, 2009.  During this period there were tw0 hand to hand purchases of cocaine made by a confidential informant at the home on March 5, 2009.

On Tuesday, March 31, 2009 the Falmouth Drug Task Force and Cape Cod Task Force made another controlled buy off Gomez after he was bailed out for $10,000 set by Judge Michael Creedon for several different drug charges.  The Falmouth Drug Task Force confirmed new information that Gomez was still selling while out on bail.

During the execution of Thursday night's warrant, three other people at the home were arrested on several drug charges along with Gomez--Katelyn Geggatt, 19, Joseph Cabral, 30 and Marki Matchem, 19.

Upon entry, authorities observed Cabral and Matchem sitting in front of a plate containing crack cocaine and a rolled up dollar bill used to snort the drug.  Additionally, 38.7 grams of cocaine were found in a baby's closet.  Cash, a marijuana joint and a roach were found and confiscated during a search of Gomez's person.  In addition to the drugs, two different scales were found in the home (two other scales had been found during the first warrant execution).  The approximate street value of the cocaine and marijuana is $4,050. Gomez's 1996 Cadillac Seville was also seized.

Gomez and Cabral have been charged with Distribution of Class B Drugs (Cocaine), Trafficking Class B Drugs-28 to 100 Grams (Cocaine), Controlled Substance Violation Near a School and Conspiracy to Violate Drug Law. In addition to the previous charges, Gomez was also charged with Possession of Class D Marijuana.  Matchem and Geggatt were charged with Possession of Class B (Cocaine), School Zone Violation and Conspiracy to Violate Controlled Substance.

With a lengthy record of narcotics violations (123 adult arraignments), Gomez is no stranger to police, having been selling drugs since 1993.  He is now 34.

That's not a school per se. It's a school office building. No kids go there.

A question..

Why is it the state can send a sting operation to a local store for underage sale of cigarettes, immediately shut down the operation, levy fines, and clear out the store of its cigarettes.
meanwhile, it takes months of investigation and buys to shut down an illegal drug operation, with yet more months of trial and usual acquittal or dismissal?

Yes, I live close to the barn and set it as an example of overreaching state intrusion from my prior comment.
