Where are the Best Fried Clams on Cape Cod?

The quintessential Cape Cod clam dish has a thousand  champions

But where do YOU think they are prepared best?

It's that time of year again when all those eateries which were closed all winter start opening up for our summer visitors and us as well.

My favorite fried clam restaurant is the Marathon on Route 28 in West Dennis, but everyone I know has a different candidate for Cape's Best Fried Clams.

  • Which restaurant is YOURS?
  • Big bellies or small?
  • But Strips are for Manhattan Clam Chowder heretics.

My wife used to to prefer Sir Cricket in Orleans which is a take-out. I have a friend who insists that Cooke's across the street is better.

Some places have a thick coating, others a thin one.

Some folks like small bellies, while others ask specifically for big bellies.

Some people slather tartar sauces all over them, others opt for a little lemon juice to savor the essential bivalve.

One of our bloggers has three favorites, Kreme & Kone, Seafood Sam's and Capt. Frosty's.

Some prefer clam strips which are as non-Cape Cod as Manhattan Clam Chowder.

I vote for Kreme & Kone and Golden Boy. Many other notables abound, though.

Ok, my turn, my turn,, Cooks is our pick, Orleans first but the other 2 right behind. I have done Kream & Kone and wasn't bad but we felt Cooks was better. and Captain Frosty's in Dennis we have been told were good, but when we got there, they don't take plastic and the prices were higher then what we expected so we bugged out. Other then that I will be watching to see where other like to go,,,

The Kream N Kone is open...the Kream n Kone is open. That is the best place. I almost live in Sandwich but my husband & I drive down almost once a week in the summer. I find they r your best bet for quality, price, & quantity.

Kream N Kone (the original family) in West Dennis now, is #1 by far. A close second is Sir Cricket in Orleans (for fish and chips too). The "original" seafood restaurant (former location of Kream N Kone) isn't even in the top 20.

Without hesitation I will nominate the Kreme 'n Kone, #1 for this clam-fanatic, there is no #2.

I know I commented once but I have to add something, When my son and I got to the Cape on Wednesday 4-8, I had to call my wife from Cooks just to rub it in I was eating Fried Claims on the Cape in April. She and my daughter were Sooooo jealous, and to think my son does not do Claims, but he sure dove into Cook's fried Haddock Lunch special. Wow,, Sir Cricket's Im seeing a couple times now,, think this may be someplace to check out.

Yum, yum . . . Jerry's (which is no longer owned by Jerry) on Rt 28 in Yarmouth used to have exquisite fried clams. It's where we'd always go, but haven't been the last two summers. My family thought they were better than Kream n Kone.

cacentinel, Jerry's did used to be the bomb for sure! Also haven't been there the past few summers... since Jerry doesn't own it. Haven't had a good plate of clams since, truth be told. Maybe I will try Kreme and Kone this weekend.

I was sorely disappointed the last time I went to Jerry's for fried clams. It's now owned (or was a year ago)by a foreign gentleman, Greek, maybe. I should have been alerted by the addition of Gyro's to the menu, lol. The fried food was horrible.
