Weekend Update: Three arrests in Truro; Harwich weekly arrests; Falmouth car vs. building; Yarmouth Police arrest multiple offender drunken boater; Harwich investigates liquor store break; YPD nabs another 4th offense drunk driver

Harwich Police arrests for June 29 through July 5, 2009

Arrests include Domestic Assault and Battery, OUI and Motor Vehicle Offenses

HARWICH - During the period of Monday, June 29 to Sunday July 5, 2009, the Harwich Police logged 424 calls for service.  Officers responded to 18 motor vehicle crashes and 3 disturbances as well as seveal other service calls such as parking complaints and house alarms.  Six individuals will face criminal charges.  Of the six, five were arrested and one will face a criminal application to appear in court at a later date.  The arrested subjects are as follows:

Jeffrey Quest of Orleans Road in Harwich arrested by Officer Mark Holmes during a domestic violence call and charged with Assault and Battery (Domestic Violence).

Kevin O'Brien of Queen Anne Road in Chatham, arrested by Officer Eric Geake during a motor vehicle stop on a Default Warrant for Motor Vehicle Violations.

Alexander Green of Ashleigh Terrace in Taunton, arrested by Sgt. John Sullivan during a motor vehicle stop and charged with OUI (Liquor), Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Marked Lane Violations and Speeding.

David Olearcek of Schoolhouse Pond Road in Chatham, arrested by Officer Amy Walinski for shoplifting during a call to a local supermarket.

Cullen Winkler of Jackson Avenue in Centerville, arrested by Sgt. John Sullivan during a motor vehicle stop and charged with OUI (Liquor), Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Marked Lanes Violation and Failure to Stop/Yield.

Three arrests in Truro over holiday weekend

TRURO - The Truro Police Department responded to over 220 calls during the period of June 29 through July 5 including reports of suspicious activity, Internet crimes, and mutual aid for the Truro Fire Department and the Wellfleet and Provincetown Police Departments.  Three arrests were made during this period:

Officers arrested Mark C. White, 42, of Cypress Street in Plymouth on Highland Road in North Truro on Thursday, July 2th at 8:45 a.m. on a Warrant for Assault & Battery.

Officers arrested Nathaniel C. Newsome, 38, of Arrowhead Road in North Truro at that location at 5:24 p.m. on Saturday, July 4th and charged him with Assault.

Officers arrested Abigail E. McGillen, 18, of Main Street in Harwich at 1:12 a.m. on Sunday, July 5th on Shore Road in North Truro for the following offenses: Suspended Registration, Operating a Motor Vehicle without a License, Leaving the Scene of Personal Injury and OUI Liquor.

Car vs. food pantry in North Falmouth

NORTH FALMOUTH - The driver of a sedan crashed into the Village Pantry Food Mart on Route 28A in North Falmouth Sunday afternoon around 3:45 p.m.

A victim of the crash was transported to an area hospital via a MedFlight helicopter.

Yarmouth Police arrest multiple offender drunken boater

   Jeffrey A. Daluz, arrested Saturday for Felony Boating OUI Liquor 5th Offense.

WEST YARMOUTH - On Saturday, July 4, 2009 at 7:50 p.m., Yarmouth Division of Natural Resources Officers Edward Tierney and Steven Raneo stopped a boat that had intruded into the special Firework Display Area Security Zone in the Lewis Bay area of West Yarmouth.

Both officers met with the operator of the vessel and observed several signs of intoxicated and impairment.  The operator was interviewed and given a series of Standardized Field Sobriety Tests and transported to the public docking area at Englewood Beach in West Yarmouth where Yarmouth Police Patrol Sergeant John K. Fallon and Yarmouth Police Patrol Investigator Christopher Van Ness took custody of the operator and transported him to Yarmouth Police Headquarters under arrest for Boating Under the Influence. 

At Yarmouth Police Headquarters a record check of the suspect, Jeffrey A. Daluz, 53, of Pleasant Hill Lane in Hyannis, revealed an extensive history of Operating under the Influence in Massachusetts including at least 7 prior arrests for OUI liquor and 5 convictions.  It was also determined that Daluz had his Massachusetts operator’s license revoked for life.

Daluz is currently being held at Yarmouth Police Headquarters in West Yarmouth on $5,000 cash bail and is scheduled for arraignment in the Barnstable District Court on Monday, July 6, 2009.

His boat, a 22-foot center console Aqua Sport (above right), has been seized under the provisions of Melanie Law and is currently being held at Yarmouth Police Headquarters pending forfeiture proceedings.

Harwich PD investigates overnight liquor store robbery Friday night

HARWICH - On Saturday, July 4, 2009, Harwich Police officers responded to the Harwich Spirit Shop in Harwichport for a past breaking and entering to the business.

The owner of the business discovered the break when he arrived to open for the day. The suspect entered through a back window and stole a cash box and several lottery tickets.

The Harwich Police were assisted at the scene by a Criminal Identification Officer from the Barnstable County Sheriff's Office.

The incident remains under investigation.

Yarmouth Police Nab Another 4th Offense Drunk Driver

   Joseph Juan Montanez was arrested early Friday morning for OUI Liquor - 4th Offense.

YARMOUTH - On Friday, July 3, 2009 at 1:04 a.m., Yarmouth Police Patrol Officer Christopher Marino observed a vehicle traveling westbound on Route 28 in an erratic manner drifting back and forth over the double yellow center lines and in and out of the travel lane.

Patrol Officer Marino stopped the vehicle and interviewed the operator.  The operator exhibited signs of intoxication with a strong odor of alcoholic beverage on his breath, dazed and confused look, and glassy and bloodshot eyes.

The operator, Joseph Juan Montanez, 44, of Barnstable Road in Hyannis, also had difficulty with speaking, following directions, and walking.  He failed a series of 5 Standardized Field Sobriety Tests and was subsequently placed under arrest for his 4th offense of drunk driving.

Montanez was transported to Yarmouth Police Headquarters where he was charged with the following:

• OUI Liquor 4th Offense
• Failure to Stay Within Marked Lanes
• Operating a Motor Vehicle to Endanger
• Operating with a Revoked License for being a Habitual Traffic Offender

He was scheduled for arraignment in the Barnstable District Court Friday morning.
