Health of 31 firefighters checked after Yarmouth fire

At least 25 firefighters were taken to Cape Cod Hospital today because of concerns they may have been exposed to hazardous materials while fighting a blaze in Yarmouth, officials said.
Officials were worried that fertilizer and other chemicals may have burned, generating dangerous fumes, during the fire inside the cranberry bog utility building... Globe.

YARMOUTH - A 3-alarm fire broke out Friday morning in a storage building on the site of a cranberry bog on Knob Hill Road in Yarmouth.

According to an unconfirmed report from the scene, thirty or more firefighters have been sent to the Cape Cod Hospital after possibly being exposed to hazardous materials while battling the blaze.

"It depends on what it is; some fertilizers get very toxic when they burn. We don't know the makeup of what was in there, so it was more of a precautionary thing." - Chris Smith, YFD.

We will update this story as more details become available.

That fire was 1/2 mile from my house. Thank goodness it wasn't worse.
Big thanks to all the emergency responders.
Re: Dennis PD auction- Thanks for sharing that event. I attended and left with an antique bike, power blower and jewelry.
The bike was a ladies English 3 speed, which my son and I needed for parts to complete a 1937 Raleigh.
I fought hard to win that one. The Officer who ran the auction was particulary witty, remarking that I would "look good cruising around" in that decidedly feminine bike.
LOL to the nth degree!
Thanks, Dennis PD!
