What are YOUR pet peeves?

I'll show you mine if you show me yours
Be honest, everyone has them, here's your chance to beef

By Walter "Vladek" Brooks

I was leaving work today driving behind a "bluehead" in an older Chevy heading south on Route 134 nearing the Police station with plenty of time to make the light when the driver ahead stopped in the middle of the road and waved someone parked at the garden supply store parking lot out into traffic ahead of her stopping the traffic in both directions on this state highway in the process.

"My pet peeve? er, daylight, garlic, crosses, stakes, you know, the wooden ones..." - Vlad the Impaler.

Why is this a pet peeve?

  1. It's a violation of the state driving laws. Cars are not permitted to stop on a highway unless waiting to turn left or right themselves with their direction blinkers on.
  2. The cars behind and those approaching have no idea why the car is stopped, and often attempt to pass sometimes causing a collision with the poor sucker the "bluehead" has invited into danger.

When questioned why she did such a silly and dangerous thing later, the old poop explained she was being friendly. Aaaaarrrggghhh!

Pet peeve #2 is when shoppers in a store parking lot walk across in front of incoming traffic at a wide angle to their own parked car thus blocking the lane twice or three times longer than necessary if they crossed at a right angle to traffic.

Pet peeve # 3 is people walking on the highway with their backs to the traffic especially in dark clothes. The only good thing about this is that it works wonders over time due to Darwin's theory of "natural selection."

Now show me yours!

O.K., there are three of mine (I have others I will spare you today), and it's your turn to tell me and our tens of thousands of readers your pet peeves.

If you are a registered commenter, add you peeve below now. If not, register and do so immediately!

For the technology-challenged, you can email me your pet peeve and I'll add it myself wirth or without your name.

1. Impatient visitors at The Yarmouth Dump, who block you in in order to quickly unload and avoid waiting for a proper space.
2. tailgaters
3. People who claim deep religious faith, yet it's evident that their lives are far more $%^#ed up than most heathens.
4. litterbugs-
5. People who crowd at grocery lines, the interpersonal equivalant of tailgating.
6. People who ignore "yield" signs, particularly at Station Ave/Old Main and White's Path in Yarmouth.

That's just a start. ;)

Oh boy! I've got plenty, becuase I'm an old grouch, but here's two.

1. People in the supermarket who walk around supporting all their weight on their forearms on the handle of the shopping cart. Stand up straight and have some pride and dignity for Heaven's sake!

2. Guys (mostly) who dine in restaurants while wearing a baseball cap. In case you didn't know, doofus, it is impolite to wear your hat under these circumstances.

1) People who don't "keep right" when driving slow on the highway (especially while talking on cell phone)

2) Not being able to walk in the post office, grocery store, dump, hardware store without being "hit up" for money by some local organization.

3) Being told "your call is important to us" while put on hold on the phone and waiting an hour to talk to a real person.

1. People that use the self-service checkout at Stop & Shop who have no business using a computer, let alone holding up an entire line while they figure out how to weigh their prunes.

2. The "new and improved" ATM's at Bank of America that take at least twice as long to process a simple transaction.

3. Obama apologists

4. Tourists that forget how to shop for groceries, as they dodder through Stop and Shop like "Dawn of the Dead".

5. Out of state drivers who "just stop" at random places on the road while they try to get their bearings.

1. People who block the aisles in the supermarket with their carts while they ponder the varieties of ketchup--I usually just gently push their carts aside instead of waiting for them to notice me.

2. People who pull out into your lane waiting for the traffic in the other direction to clear, thereby blocking an entire lane.

3. Old retired people who can shop any time who shop on Saturdays making it even more unbearable.

4.People with multiple disgusting piercings whose faces look like tackle boxes. It makes me sick to my stomach.

5. Hairy fat men wearing tank tops.

How about the guys on the highway who get a "testosterone rush" and speed up when you try to pass them in the passing lane. They might have been going 60 when you came up on them, but you've got to get up to 85-90 to get by them, and once you do pass them they slow right down again.

1. People that get in the wrong lane just to get one car length ahead then create chaos when they try to force their way over. Most notably, on south st approaching the hospital and the end of Independence park. Also, coming off Enterprise turning onto 132. If you want to go to Sam Diegos GET IN THE RIGHT HAND TURNING LANE!!!

2. The merge from Hyannis into Yarmouth. I have never seen a group of drivers more concerned with a single #@$#%%^ car length in my life.

3. People who stop in bumper to bumper traffic, at a dead stand still and yet refuse to allow anyone out to take a left. Instead they studiously ignore the fact that you're staring right at them and that allowing you out would not have changed their position in any way shape or form. That's just ignant and you know who you are!! lol

speaking of route 134- many, many pet peeves of mine also happen on that road. most notably how congested and jammed both intersections with lights by Patriot Square and the road to the dump often get. My peeve is the idiots who just HAVE to pull into the middle of the intersection even when there is a jam and no room for them to do it because they don't want to get caught by the red light. stupid. why can't they just do the honorable/intelligent thing by acknowledging the traffic jam, stop at the line and just wait it out until the light changes for them again? let the jam lighten up- too hard? Wouldn't it be worse to be the douche bag blocking everyone than having to sit through a light?? am I crazy? God help if emergency vehicles need to come through when those intersections get like that. I avoid Rte. 134 on weekends and in the summer, only going if I have no choice.

1. Not signaling your turn or lane change.
2. Forgetting to turn off your turn signal once you've completed the turn (what Jerry Seinfeld called "the eventual left").
3. Intersections that don't have street signs for both the road you're on and the cross street.
4. Big SUVs that aren't required for any off-road driving more challenging than the parking lot at the mall.

Seems we get most steamed up about ve-hic-u-lar behaviors.

How about a launching ramp rant? Like last year on a summer weekend when an SUV with 2 kayaks on top parked right on the ramp while the boats were unloaded, then spent about 20 minutes arranging gear while blocking the ramp. Hello!! You can pick those things up and carry them around, unlike the guy waiting in line with a 20-footer that weighs about 2 tons!
