Work-Avoidance Maneuvers

I Meant To Do My Work Today
by Richard Le Gallienne

I meant to do my work today,
But a brown bird sang in the apple tree,
And a butterfly flitted across the field,
And all the leaves were calling me.
And the wind went sighing over the land,
Tossing the grasses to and fro,
And a rainbow held out its shining hand--
So what could I do but laugh and go?

Richard Le Gallienne and later Elton John, who must have gotten around copyright laws by adding "(A Day in the Country)" to the song title with the same lyrics, had the right idea.  Now that the sun has shone more-or-less regularly for two weeks, I've been perfecting my work-avoidance maneuvers.  Here are a few:

I meant to write an article today, but a new geocache in Harwich, "Texeira Trail Cache," was just published and I could get a First To Find (sadly, I missed it by 40 minutes).

I meant to outline a series of profiles and contact sources for interviews, but the sun was sparkling and the beach breeze called.  A trip to South Chatham's Forest Beach for "Another Chatham Beach Cache" geocache was in order.

I meant to clean the house today, but I was getting hungry and a bike ride for a Joe B. fresh mozarella, tomato, lettuce and balsamic vinaigrette sandwich at Sesuit Harbor Cafe beckoned.

I meant to update my blog today, but it was a great day to wander the paths of Mass Audubon's Long Pasture Sanctuary with my family.

I meant to do my work today... and today I'd better get to it!
Happy Trails.

I'd be more inspired by this if I wasn't reading it at my desk at work, lol.

Susan_ Thanks for mentioning Long Pasture. I was previously unaware of the gem, though I am a big fan of the North Side. I'll have to visit!
