Mihos needs to cut ties with anti-wind farm bloc

Christy is still tilting at the windmill

By Ron LaBonte.

Massachusetts could use a man like Christy Mihos who, if elected governor, would shake up the status quo on Beacon Hill and likely lower taxes.

However, in my opinion, he’ll never make governor if he continues to align himself with William Koch, Glen Wattley and the Alliance to Protect Nantucket Sound. I wonder if Mr. Mihos has read Dennis Duffy’s Sept. 21 “My View” in the Cape Cod Times. Many thinking people have read it.

Why kill your chances of being governor for the sake of not having to look at the tops of wind turbines 6 miles away?

Ron LaBonte, Chatham

you compromise on policy, programs, and politics. you never compromise on principle--no matter the cost.

LOL, what principle are you uncompromising on, Christy? The principal view from your deck?

won't see it. the principle the CW is a boondoggle--
A for profit industrial plant built with taxpayer money, subsidized with electricity rates that will need to be 100% more that the huge utility rates we pay today. Its a politically correct pipe-dream that will never be built.

Just a comment Christy. I would not vote for someone just because they are against the wind farm; but I do have a problem with the big connection to the Alliance, a controversial entity who has at least the appearance of being underhanded and who is beholden to a few wealthy powerful people who care very little about the rest of us. I would be concerned about you thus being beholden to those same few wealthy powerful people. It's the exact same thing as the concern one would have with a candidate being connected to a big powerful corporation or lobbyist. I agree with your other politics but this is the one thing holding me back. Will you do what is in the best interest of the state? or will you be dictated to by these few people?

Christy, please do some real research instead of listening to the lies and propaganda coming from your organization. (The Alliance) The issue of high electric rates has been debunked over and over again by engineers and experts. You know well, there's no taxpayer funds going to be used to build the wind farm, only tax incentives if they're profitable, just like any other utility.

Most people looking over the field of current candidates would conclude Christy will be the "least beholden" to special interests. Deval, Galvin and Baker all have baggage whereas Christy, by virtue of his personal resources and isolation from insider Beacon Hill dealing, comes with the cleanest slate. Just one man's opinion.

have taken an oath of office twice for the Turnpike Authority Board---the words, special interests, wealthy, connected, or powerful few just aren't in the oath. you doubt where I stood in all that fight?

All utilities are "for profit," at least in non-Communist countries. All utilities are built "with taxpayer money," at least partially, through tax credits, etc.

As for the "pipe dream," there are two others that make this one Lilliputian: One is an ever-present supply of crude oil at a price sufficient to keep our economy afloat into the next century. The other is the development of a sufficient supply of nuclear power to make up the difference.

Listen to Boone Pickens or get the hell out of the way.

With some 85% of Massachusetts residents for this great boondogle, one must adjust their position on this wind farm if they stand a chance of being elected to public office.
It saddens me greatly that so many naive people seem to envision an "Alice in Wonderland" world with this wind farm.
There are so many good reasons why this installation would be a disaster from the start. A few are::
* Inconsistant power availability
* Hurricane vunerablity..1938
* High cost of power
* No effect on Earth warming

About This Blog

oped3An op-ed is a piece of writing, expressing an opinion. The name originated from the tradition of newspapers placing each columns on the page opposite to the editorial page. Thus the term "op-ed" is simply a combination of "opposite" and "editorial." The difference with this one, however, is that you can reply immediately by commenting below.
