Assault & Battery suspect crashes into police cruiser
NORTH FALMOUTH - Around 12:26 a.m., Friday morning, Falmouth Police received a report of an assault at a residence on Heather Lane, possibly involving a gun or knife.
An investigation revealed the victim, a 40-year-old man from North Falmouth, had arrived at a residence on Heather Lane to pick up his 19-year-old daughter. An altercation began between the victim and Richard Searles, 22, of North Falmouth, and two other males during which Searles pushed and slapped the victim and threatened to shoot him with his shotgun. The victim returned to his vehicle and armed himself with a bat for protection.
Upon arrival at the intersection of Heather Lane and Wohelo Drive, Officer Elvira Ferrer observed the victim yelling and waving the bat. As Officer Ferrer was stopping and parking her patrol car, a pickup truck, driven by Richard Searles, struck the cruiser head-on.
Searles was placed under arrest for OUI Liquor, Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Assault & Battery and Threat to Commit a Crime (Murder).
The impact caused minor damage to the cruiser and moderate damage to the pickup truck. No injuries were reported.

I am aware of the amount of incidents and criminal behavior across the country. Is their similarities that exist on Cape Cod, of course on a smaller scale, due to the pressure of the economic conditions, and unrest we all are living in?
Has Cape Cod been targeted for more than usual criminals to carry out their destructive, robbing and lawlessness?
Crime on the Cape? You must be mistaken. According to Buzz, it's Disney Land on steroids with everyone singing Kumbaya 24/7.
