Triple shooting at 72 Nautical Way in Hyannis Saturday morning

At least one chest wound is life-threatening, car sped off after shooting

One victim moved to a Boston hospital, "drive-by" aspect investigated

HYANNIS - State Police crime scene investigators on right and below examine evidence at the scene of a triple shooting at 72 Nautical Way in Hyannis early Saturday morning.

One 23 year-old male was shot in the chest and two other victims shot in the leg and foot.

It is believed the victim shot in the chest suffered life-threatening injuries.

Chest wounds are considered life threatening, acccording to Hyannis Fire Lt. Thomas Kenny.

"Drive-by" shooting?

The victim who was shot multiple times including a chest wound is in critical condition at a Boston area hospital. Police say the shootings were not random, and that the victims knew each other. Nautical Way is in an area known for drug arrests in the past.

An initial on scene investigation resulted in a police broadcast regarding a vehicle leaving the scene. The vehicle was reported to have fled Nautical Way immediately following the gunshots.

Barnstable Patrolman Brendan Burchell located the vehicle on Sea Street, Hyannis. He stopped the vehicle and found it contained four adult males one of whom had a single gun shot wound to his lower leg. Hyannis Fire Rescue transported this third victim to Cape Cod Hospital Emergency Room for treatment.

The othet two victims with single gun shot wounds are being treated at Cape Cod Hospital.

Investigators are trying to determine the intended target and motive of the shooting, but they say this is not a random crime. All of the victims and suspects are known to local police.

The incident occurred around 12:30 a.m.  Saturday morning.

State Police crime scene investigators and Barnstable Police and Fire-Rescue were on the scene for several hours gathering evidence.

Nautical way is just as bad,if not worse, than GP drive. I'm surprised this incident made the paper, there are so many of them there.

Too many absent owners in this area. One of the main owners of property on Nautical & Murray is a husband & wife from Framingham - home inspectors no less. They own 7 properties/parcels. Anyone think they are interested in making the street nice? The town needs to crack down on all the owners about the condition of properties. Force the absent landlords to upgrade the properties - maybe that will then force the landlords to find better tenants. Really is too bad b/c this land is so close to the beach.

"You live on Cape Cod? Must be really quiet down there during the off season." People from off Cape are clueless.

Back in the late 50’s when Clara Ann Fowler , a.k.a. The Singing Rage, Miss Patti Page was waxing poetically about, "quaint little villages here and there..", the Cape was an idyllic little spit of sand where not much went on.

Prior to the Worthington / Mc Cowen / O'Keefe / Flook circus, the most notorious murder on the Cape was the Lady in the Dunes. The body of a partially dismembered, still unidentified woman was found on a Provincetown Beach, during the summer of ’74. There have been other murders, as the Cape is not immune to the woes of the world, but in the past they were generally crimes of passion.

Recently the trend has shifted to drug / turf wars, gangbangers and punk wannabes. One particularly sad event was the execution style murder of young girl who was mistaken for someone else. Unfortunately this is what the Cape has morphed into. As much as it bothers me to say it, anything you can find in the big cities, you can probably find here.
As one resident was quoted as saying” I liked the old drug dealers better.”
