Route 25 Rollover; Harwich students arrested for "silent sit-in"

One injured, took an hour to free driver

BOURNE - One person was injured in a single vehicle truck rollover on Route 25 eastbound on the Bourne/ Plymouth town line Friday afternoon (11-20-09) around 1:20 PM.

Firefighters from Bourne, Plymouth and Onset spent nearly one half hour extricating the female victim from the vehicle using the jaws of life. The extent of the female victim's injuries is unknown at this time. She is being transported to Tobey Hospital in Wareham. State Police are investigating the cause of the crash. (Photo by David G. Students arrested at Cape Cod Tech protest, school in "lock down"
Student Facebook cites heavy-handed disciplinary treatment of students

A heavy police presence was visible outside the school, and police on the scene told a news photographer the facility was "locked down."

HARWICH - Students held a sit-in protest at Cape Cod Regional Technical High School in Harwich early Friday morning, and the event led to the arrests of at least two students.

A Facebook page set up by students said the "silent sit-in" demonstration was meant to call attention to what they say is heavy-handed disciplinary treatment of students by some teachers and school administrators.

Several students and parents outside the school while the protest was going on said more than 400 of the school's 600 students were participating in what began as a peaceful protest. They said many of the grievances were directed toward Dean of Students Paula Maxwell.

Harwich police confirmed the arrests of two students at Cape Cod Regional Technical High School Friday morning, after a student protest of school administration policies became disorderly.

Police Sgt. Kevin Considine said one female student, a juvenile whose name and hometown was not released, was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct and disturbing a school assembly. Student Tom Wordell, 18, of Harwich, was charged with disorderly conduct and vandalizing school property, when he allegedly punched a window, cracking the glass, after being told to disburse from the protest and return to class, police said... Viewing your link all I could think of was our Native Americans.

If you would find time, when not playing grab ass and thank you's with Jonathan, please pay respect to those who owned North America before we arrived and stole it from them at gunpoint.

1. It is News + Information. Please embrace reality.
2. You don't have to go back to "Cowboys & Indians. That was before Jack Kevorkian's rise to fame.
Just go back to Dr. Kevorkian. This should be sufficient.

It's not really fair to CCRT to say some of what is said here. There are some adults behind the kids' actions that really need to be taken in to account. Especially considering that that little acting out yesterday on the part of a few made the entire school look bad when in fact it is addressing the concerns brought forth by the rational students. It's a good school with a lot of people that really care about the kids and it turns out workforce ready students. The thing about a few adults stirring up this mess is agravating because I expect teenagers to be somewhat irrational, but what's up with the "grown ups?" Not to mention this little blow up yesterday probably cost taxpayers $15 or $20K.

works twice as hard to earn there education than most if not all public high school students,

things too far and we were finally ready to do something about it by standing up for our

called profound names, or have our rights to privacy and a voice taken away and that is
only the begining. You may not believe that any of the things that happend or that you read

students decided to organize a peaceful sit-in after three months of no change or word that
there was actually going to be a change after voiceing our opinions to the administration.
You may say that this was a childish idea to do, but it was not. Yes, things did get out of

Bri... I was an educator for some time, as well as doing some time as a student. I know both sides.

As for the sit-in... good job. I was joking earlier when I suggested attacking the teachers. The kid who smashed the window got just what he deserved, however. His head would have went through the window after, had he tried that at some of the schools I taught at in Boston.

As for backpacks, I'm with the kids 100%. Schools are big, crowded places, and it's tough to get to your locker between periods. Bunches of textbooks are heavy, and I've seen a 100 pound girl walking around with 60 pounds of books.

You can't carry them in your arms, either... you need those arms to defend yourself.

Boys are also less chivalrous these days. I might have carried my own books to class like 5 times in high school, but I was kinda hot then.

Also... lugging around a backpack will get you ready for Afghanistan. Those guns and radios don't walk up into the mountains by themselves, you know.

The simple solution is backpacks.

Good morning margebunny "honey" you must be the copy and paste queen of CCT. Don't lecture me about getting arrested for defending my child or any child against a a person such as Ms. Maxwell who would cruely lock my child up like a prisoner just because some one made a mess in the lunch room and she wants to strong arm and run the school like a prison camp because that's the way she used to run the school she was in before Cape Tech. She made a very poor introduction to the school from jump street and if she's going to fire these kids up and also a few teachers then her @ss going to get burned and it is now.

Ravenhair, I was "cruely locked up" in in school suspension about 4 years ago because I had coffee in the computer lab. At the time, I thought it was unfair. Looking back on it, I broke a rule and had to pay the consequence. Teach your kid to clean up after him/her self and they won't have to face the consequences. It's not a problem with the administration, it's a problem with the out of control students.

legal I know there are problem students and there is a problem Dean.Look legal the Dean broke a rule when she locked the lunch room door. She broke a fire safety code rule as well as used the word pigs to describe students. That is downgarading and so is she. I'm not going to keep going on about this this morning I'm going to get off my @ss and rake leaves and enjoy the lovely weather. Have a nice day.

You whine just as much as the immature students at the damn school. Enjoy your leaves, I'm going out on the water.

What is the process to petition the towns to shut down Cape Tech?

Cape Cod Today - Could someone there please post information on the process for dissolving the tech district and what voters need to know to start the process?

"Don't lecture me about getting arrested for defending my child"

This is all I posted regarding your
barbaric endorsement of physical violence
directed at school administrative staff:

"You can get some GREAT jewelry with that move, actually.
They give you these really rad bracelets,
but they're hard to eat with
cause they keep your hands restrained.
The police like them so much,
they let everyone try a pair on!"

If that's a "lecture"
then your post is a Thesis.

Imprisonment and detention are two different things.
You should think about that.
And what did they lose?...20min?

Judging by the reputation of
that school, I'd say some of
them are in for harder time
than 20min in the future.

I normally try to console
Parents, but the tone of
your reply pretty much
invalidated THAT...
