Thanksgiving morning house explosion in Sandwich injures one

House at 8 Chaucer Street is completely destroyed

Gas smell reported before explosion, occupant helicoptered to Boston

Joseph Kuzava was seriously injured when the home he rents exploded early this morning. A water heater was installed at the home yesterday, according to family members, and Kuzava complained about a smell of gas following the installation.
Kuzava suffered second-degree burns to his upper torso and was flown by medical helicopter to Brigham and Women's Hospital... under fire from neighbors for years because of a string of businesses he operated out of the property including appliance-repair and auto repair businesses...Herald.

SANDWICH - Sandwich firefighters above battle a house fire following a reported explosion at the residence at 8 Chaucer Street in Sandwich early Thanksgiving (November 26, 2009) morning around 4 a.m.

It is reported that there was only one person in the home at the time and that that person sustained serious injuries in the fire.  There were no other reported injuries.

A National Grid crew was at the scene of the fire following the reported explosion.  The house was completely destroyed in the blaze.
