A visitor's perspective from Wareham to ProvincetownMassachusetts Costal Railroad To Aquire Rights To Use Fall River + New Bedford Line
In a press release on Wednesday November 25th, 2009 Massachusetts Coastal Railroad is working with the state and with CSX transportation to strike a deal for operating privileges on the south coast lines (Fall River + New Bedford). Massachusetts Coastal Railroad is the sister company of Cape Cod Central Railroad which provides awarding winning passenger service on the Cape. With the addition of these 33 miles of track Massachusetts Coastal Railroad will have operating privileges on almost 100 miles of track in Eastern Massachusetts. This brings forward a big step in operating freight and passenger service on the South Coast. Right now CSX transportation handles 2,000 rail cars over the South Coast Lines doing this eliminates 7,000 road trips off the regions highways. Overall it seems as this is a good move in bringing transportation to the South Coast. This transition to Massachusetts Coastal Railroad is scheduled to occur on May 14th, 2010.
