Harwich Police seek suspect in Wednesday night gas station armed robbery

HARWICH - At approximately 6:30 p.m. Wednesday evening, January 27, 2010, members of the Harwich Police Department were dispatched to the Speedway Gas Station on Main Street in Harwich Center for a reported armed robbery that had just occurred.

The on-duty attendant at the Speedway told officers that a black male, wearing a ski mask and brandishing a black handgun, entered the office and demanded money.  The attendant handed over an envelope containing cash that was going to be deposited.  The subject then exited the station and ran south on Bank Street.

A K-9 Unit from the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office responded and conducted a track for the suspect.   Other Harwich Police units continued to search the area for the suspect but were unable to locate him at that time.

The Harwich Police Patrol Division was also assisted by the Harwich Police Detective Division and a Criminal Identification Officer from the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident remains under investigation at this time.

The Harwich Police are asking anyone in the area of the Speedway at the time of the robbery to report anything suspicious by calling Harwich Police Detective Marc Harris at 508-430-7541.

I take it that Speedway doesn't have a camera. Hey, guy who owns the Speedway! Buy a camera, you cheap eff! Give the attendant a panic button, too! They don't cost that much, and it may save the attendant's life!
