Chatham sewer construction to start week of March 15th

Work started in March will cease in May for the summer

The Town of Chatham has announced that construction on the Initial Phase of the expanded sewer collection system is expected to start the week of March 15, 2010.

Robert B. Our Co., of Harwich, contractor for the collection system project will begin work on George Ryder Road, between Route 28 and the Chatham Airport. Installation of the sewer main on George Ryder Road will necessitate periodic closures of the road in order to ensure the safety of the public and construction workers. The work is expected to take approximately 3 weeks. The contractor and the Chatham Police Department will have detail police officers to assist with traffic and road closures.

Work will also begin on Meadow View Road, on or about March 17th, at the intersection with Vineyard Ave. and proceed west to Barn Hill Road. Following completion of that section work will commence on Vineyard Avenue between Meadow View Road and Route 28 and last until May when construction will cease for the summer.

Work on the installation of low pressure sewers along Summer Hill Lane, Plum Daffy Lane, Marcus Lane and a portion of the lower section of Barn Hill Road will begin on or about March 22nd and continue until May.

Preparation work on Route 28, between the lights at Crowell Road and Meetinghouse Road (Route 137) will begin in March with construction expected to start in April. Installation of the sewer main on Route 28 will necessitate road closures in order to ensure the safety of the public and construction workers. The contractor and the Chatham Police Department will have detail police officers to assist with traffic and road closures. Message boards and signage will provide updated information on the road closures and access to locations along Route 28.

Construction on all roads will cease for the summer and will resume after Labor Day.

All affected roads will be open during the evening and overnight hours, on weekends and holidays.

Regular updates will be provided through Channel 18, the town’s website, and local media.

Every effort will be made to minimize the inconvenience and impact on area businesses, residents and the public. We are asking for, and appreciate, the public’s patience and cooperation during this environmentally important project.
