Cape Cod Opera presents "The Merry Widow" August 7th & 8th in West Barnstable
Escape to Paris at the beginning of August
Let Cape Cod Opera take you to Paris to visit The Merry Widow, an operetta, sung in English, by Franz Lehar, Saturday, August 7 at 8pm and Sunday, August 8 at 3pm, onstage at Tilden Auditorium, Cape Cod Community College, 2240 Iyanough Road (Route 132) in West Barnstable.
Treat yourself to this lighthearted story of political and amorous intrigue set amidst Parisian highlife of the late 1800’s at Maxim’s Restaurant and the Pontevedrian Embassy in Paris where every man in town is trying to marry the rich widow, Hanna, or rather, her deceased husband’s money. Count Danilo, also from Pontevedria, seems the obvious choice but secret events from their amorous youth get in the way.
But all’s well that ends well for the large cast of eleven scintillating professional performers directed by David McCarty and chorus master Christoper McMullen-Laird, Costumer is Linda Arthur with Anne Kiefer providing lighting magic. Lucy Banner is leader of the jazz trio. There will be a free pre-performance lecture by Dr. Norman Reiss plus a transportation assistance van from Lot Nine to the auditorium door.
Reserved seats are $35 and $50. Youths under 18 are $15. Children under twelve are admitted free with each adult ticket bought at the door.
Reservations at www.capecodopera.org or toll free at 866 811-4111 or call 508 246-0039. For information call 508 945-9274. All tickets will be held for pickup at the door where remaining tickets will also be available.
Performance proceeds support Cape Cod Opera’s non-profit productions plus community and high school outreach programs. Cape Cod Opera is grateful for assistance from the Arts Foundation of Cape Cod, local Cultural Councils of Falmouth, Mid-Cape, Harwich, Chatham, Brewster, Orleans, Eastham and Mashpee, The Cape Cod Five Cents Savings Bank Charitable Foundation, the Edward Bangs and Elza Kelley Foundation and the Friends of Cape Cod Opera.
