Life in Progress

Life In Progress

by Ana Paulina

It's official, Christmas is around the corner and before you know it, St Nick will be coming down that chimney.

I found Jimmy Boyle, decorating this tree at the Buzzards Bay Park, and  Mark McMahon, was kind enough to introduce me to the West End rotary, which faces the town of  Wareham, and the Balmount rotary also known as the Buzzards Bay rotary.

Cranberries

These gentlemen were busy gathering up some cranberries first thing this morning.

And around 3:00 this evening, there was a fire drill in progress over at the Factory Outlets, by Exit 1C, off the Mid-Cape Highway.

Connected

The Sagamore Station 3, Bourne Fire Department

These gentlemen got a kick out of me taking pictures of them and burst out into laughter.

Traffic

The flow of traffic was continuous and very stressful for most of the drivers.

Thankfully, they had the opportunity to observe a safety fire drill before leaving the

Cape.

There was an observable  increase in the amount of crew members working on the Sagamore bridge today.

Buzzards Bay Theater

Buzzards Bay Theater

by Ana Paulina

I decided to take a walk over to the Buzzards Bay Theater, located on Main street in Buzzards Bay,  as it is scheduled for demolition, to say goodbye and this is what I found.

This stay within your speed limit zone reminder is located at the corner signal lights of St Margarets Street and Route 6  ( North 28 ) in Buzzards Bay, Massachusetts.

 Traffic

This was the traffic flow for drivers leaving the Cape area at around 8:45 this morning.

Accident, Work and Traffic

Accident, Work and Traffic

by Ana Paulina

I found this auto accident at around 3:30 this evening, over at  Mid-Cape Highway ( Route 6 West ) just before Exit 1, creating a two mile backup.

And off the Bourne Rotary on Route 6 East,  heading into Sandwich Route 6 A,

some dead tree limbs.

Work

I finally had the opportunity to meet some of the men that are currently working on the Sagamore Bridge.

Carlos Santos ( Acushnet ),  Stephen Newcond ( Yarmouth ), James Balzarini ( Bridgewater ), Massachusetts.

Before the coffee break.

And over at the Scenic Highway on Route 6 , I found Steven Fernandes and Randy St. Germaine,  taking a break to glance over the Cape Cod Canal,

followed by  Kevin Jacobs and James Dean, who are working for the Town of Bourne.

 ( Kevin Jacobs )

 ( James Dean )

Traffic

There was a steady flow of traffic this morning with some breaks of no traffic  in between.

And I fell in love with this solar, top of the line , cautionary, flashing portable post.

Bourne Bridge

Bourne Bridge

by Ana Paulina

Bourne Bridge

At approximately 11:30 this morning, a funeral precession came whipping through Interstate 495 South, heading towards the Bourne Bridge, leaving behind pockets of 20 minute traffic jams, to anyone trying to access the highway.

And further up Interstate 495 South, between Exit 3 and Exit 4, I discovered this broken down school bus that was headed towards Martha's Vineyard, evacuating small children into a huddled group, with blankets and sleeping bags while they waited for a new form of transit transportation.

Broken down school bus.

I got some nasty looks from this group, my exploration was not welcome.

And heading North on Interstate 495.

Route 6 Under Construction

Route 6

by Ana Paulina

Please, remember to be extra careful when driving through the Scenic Highway on Route 6, raised structures, unpaved areas and grooved sections of the road are still under full construction. Also, try to stay within the speed limit zone and be a little considerate toward  other fellow drivers, who are trying to avoid hitting these obstacles.

This particular raised structure is located at the intersection of the Scenic Park entrance and Nightingale Pond Road, just before you get to the signal lights and the Buzzards Bay, rotary circle.

 Sagamore Bridge

I found this bridge crew on a lunch break.

A two lane bridge only.

The backed up  flow of traffic continued for a good portion of the day.

Tree work

The clearing and trimming of  tree branches continued throughout the week in the Buzzards Bay Business District,  of Route 6 West, North 28. These young gentlemen are part of the crew, who have been spending the last several weeks working in the area.

Dominic , Mark Lindskog and Matt Capachione.

This is Mike Sanborn,  a part time firefighter,  doing some work for the town of Bourne. The Buzzards Bay Park, bulletin board gets a cosmetic lift today.

A reminder that hydrant flushing will be taking place on St. Margarets Street in Buzzards Bay.

I found the South Shore Tree Removal, company in my neck of the woods this morning, removing a dead tree.

Bourne Fire Department

Bourne Fire Department

by Ana Paulina

I have been around the Bourne area for several years now and today, I noticed something that is unfamiliar to me about the Bourne Fire Station located in Buzzards Bay, an unusual stillness, tucked away in complete isolation from the rest of the community.

So, I decided to pay the station a visit and hand deliver a decorative bag filled with hot chocolate boxes for the men who service our community. At first, it took some time to break the ice, but eventually the group of firefighters and I managed to get around the pain, when I explained to them that the clock fixture that sits on the front face of the building was not displaying the accurate time. Finally, a string of smiles broke out and they were all but willing to explain that the clock was in need of repair.

Conclusion: As an empathic individual, throughout my life, I have learned, words alone will not be needed during difficult times.

A Scenic Highway Mess

A Scenic  Mess

by Ana Paulina

Hundreds of unsuspecting drivers,  drove full speed ahead over this gravel stone mess  on the Scenic Highway ( Route 6 ),  near the Herring Run Motel,  around noon today. After speaking to a few witnesses, I was told that they had heard two loud crashes. One being that a vehicle had struck a Jersey Barrier shortly followed by the drop of a slate marble sheet that hit the ground and shattered into thousands of sharp pieces causing chunks of flying marble to pelt everything in its path.

I noticed this Bourne Police stop before I turned around to inspect the road.

The Bourne Police finally show up!

Followed by the State Police and a cleaning crew.

This gentleman is Stephen Lussier, who helps run the motel.

Hello Haters

Hello Haters

by Ana Paulina

On March 3, 2009, this woman became the victim of a hate crime in the state of Massachusetts, United States of America.

Thank you, Matthew David Hume for sharing the video!

President Signs Hate Crimes Legislation into Law
October 28, 2009

"WASHINGTON, DC - President Barack Obama today signed legislation which will expand the definition of violent hate crimes to include gender, sexual orientation, gender identity and disability.  The new law will also allow the federal government to assist in the prosecution of hate crimes."

"Congressman Barney Frank has been a persistent and outspoken supporter of the legislation, and has argued consistently that Hate Crimes legislation must be the first step in broader legislation to give LGBT individuals the same rights as those enjoyed by other Americans."

"Today, Frank attended the signing ceremony today at the White House at the invitation of the President.  He released the following statement reflecting his feelings about this historic moment."

"This is a bittersweet day.  It is sweet because this is the first law in American history that begins the job of protecting lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people against prejudice.  But it is bitter because this bill comes too late to save countless victims."

"Our job now is to enact fully inclusive legislation to prevent job discrimination, to repeal Don't Ask, Don't Tell, and to begin the job of winning recognition of same-sex relationships on the federal level."
