Cape Cod Young Professionals
A community of young people looking to create a strong environment for their future, right here on Cape CodAll Ages invited to tonight's 'Town Government for the Young Cape Codder'
Cape Cod Young Professionals and Cape Cod Community College will be hosting a community forum on how to get involved in town government in the Tilden Studio Theater at the college in West Barnstable Tonight at 7 PM. The event will simulate a town meeting, complete with three warrant articles.
The event, entitled, Town Government for the Young Cape Codder, is aimed at educating and encouraging college students and young working people on Cape Cod to participate in local government, including committees, boards, and town meeting. However, the event is free and open to members of the public of all ages. Older voters are encouraged to bring their children and grandchildren as the event will provide a fun and interactive introduction to local government. Free pizza and raffle will be provided.
Members of the CCCC Debate Class will debate items on a mock warrant that mirrors current and past warrant articles from local towns. Students will debate a past proposal to ban drive-thru facilities and a current agenda of adopting a local meals tax increase. Additionally, almost one million dollars of funds for public safety and other town business will be debated.
Students from a CCCC Persuasion Class will be reaching out to classmates, faculty, and staff encouraging them to attend and participate. A twitter account has been set up to tweet questions in advance of the event. The address is www.twitter/CCYPGOVERNMENT.
In addition, CCYP will be signing up attendees for its popular "Bring a Buddy to Town Meeting" program, which connects novice town meeting voters with more experienced CCYP members.
Those who have never been to a town meeting or have felt overwhelmed and intimidated are encouraged to attend. The forum will educate young people on how town meetings are conducted and how even a single person can influence local government. The forum is for anyone who has wished they could have a greater influence on spending priorities in their town, has social concerns or said "there ought to be a law?" Town Government for the Young Cape Codder will help attendees gain greater insight into local government and take some of the mystery out what goes on in between the myriad committees and departments.
Hookers speak to the Cape Cod Young Professionals
Ok..Ok..Not those kind of Hookers!
Paul Parker, Executive Director of the Cape Cod Commercial Hook Fishemans Association will be the featured speaker at the CCYP evening event at Chatham Bars Inn on Thursday, March 8th from 5:30 - 7:30pm. Membership's Growing!
Our membership has hit the 375 member mark! Everyone talks about how there are no young people on Cape Cod, but we're finding that is just not the case.
We're hopeful that our organization will continue to grow thanks to the support of local businesses and community leaders who see this group as the next generation of Cape Cod Leadership (and rightfully so, we might add!)
Do you know someone who might want to be involved? Send them to our website to get a little more info and sign up for our enews... http://www.capecodyoungprofessionals.org/

Hello out there
Hi from the Cape Cod Young Professionals (CCYP) group!
We're one of the newer bloggers here at good ol' Cape Cod Today and thanks to all of you who have sent warm welcomes.
Over the next few weeks, we'll be blogging on info about our upcoming networking events, strategy planning for 2007, our "Breakfast with the President" series, and our first big social event (details not finalized, but it will include a trip to Beantown this summer to catch a game at Fenway!)
We're a new group - a little over a year old - and have about 325 members on our email list. As our all volunteer group navigates its course, we appreciate constructive feedback, enthusiastic support and help spreading the word to those who might be interested in the group.
The #1 question we get asked is "What's the age limit?" While most YP groups are 21-40, we figure that the Cape is a little different animal, so our answer is "young at heart." For more information, please visit our website at http://www.capecodyoungprofessionals.org .
We look forward to blogging with the group.
Next meeting is January 11

Come to the next Young professionals meeting!
The Cape Cod Young Professionals will meet 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 11 at the Roo-Bar in Hyannis. Bob Maffei, owner of Maffei Landscaping, will be the featured speaker.
There will be appetizers and a cash bar. For more information on how to become a member, e-mail capecodyoungprofessionals@yahoo.com or visit capecodyoungprofessionals.org.
