Falmouth carbon monoxide incident, Centerville crash
Girl rescued after falling off sunfish
HARWICH - Harwich rescuers were called into action after a young girl apparently fell off a small sunfish sailboat about 10 AM.
She was being carried by the current out into Nantucket Sound.
Rescuers in a fire boat reached her and were able to quickly reunite her with her parents.

Two arrested for boat B&Es
FALMOUTH - Two men were arrested by Falmouth Police early this morning charged with allegedly breaking into several boats in the Great Bay area. According to a press release from Falmouth Police officers responding to a citizen report spotted the two suspects in a 13 foot Boston Whaler with no lights on and tracked them using night vision goggles. With the assistance of a Falmouth Fire Department rescue boat police were able to intercept the boat as it entered Green Pond. A search of the vessel revealed several violations of boat laws also. Arrested were 23-year old John Murray of East Falmouth who was charged with negligent operation of a boat, disorderly conduct, boat equipment violation, boat life saving device violation, possession of burglarious tools, receiving stolen property less than $250, larceny under $250, carrying a dangerous weapon, and illegal removal of boat manufacturing ID and engine ID numbers. 37-year old (David Coates (no address given) was charged with disorderly conduct, possession of burglarious tools, receiving stolen property under $250 and larceny under $250. The two were due to be arraigned Thursday morning in Falmouth District Court. Police did not say if the pair are suspected in a series of boat larcenies and larcenies from boats in the Bourne area. Three treated for Carbon Monoxide exposure
FALMOUTH - Three people are in stable condition at Falmouth Hospital after a carbon monoxide incident in Falmouth Thursday morning. Firefighters responded to a home on Milton Road about 8 AM where the elderly woman had apparently left her car running. Despite the fact the car had stalled potentially deadly levels of the gas were detected in the house even after firefighters ventilated the building. The home reportedly did have a CO detector but one of her guests apparently unplugged it when it started beeping thinking it was defective. Posted on 8/31 at 3:00 PM.
Crash snarls Route 28 traffic
CENTERVILLE - A troublesome intersection is the scene of yet another crash about 7:30 AM Thursday. A car and a SUV collided on Route 28 by the Centerville Plaza. Firefighters used the Jaws of Life to pop one of the doors open but fortunately no one was seriously injured. Barnstable Police are investigating. Since that section of Route 28 was widened to two lanes each direction there have been countless crashes in front of the plaza some resulting in serious injuries. Dennis officials assist overturned kayak
DENNIS - Rescuers were called to Fisherman's Landing around 12:30 PM after reports a kayaker was in trouble. The man about 50 years old was reportedly trying out his new kayak when he overturned. Rescuers brought the man safely to shore cold and wet but uninjured. Posted on 8/30 at 5:00 PM.

Cape woman indicted in murder for hire scheme; cars/boat thefts on upper cape
Man seriously injured in Hyannis crash
HYANNIS - One man was seriously injured in a crash in Hyannis early Wednesday morning. His vehicle was traveling on Old Colony Road around 1 AM when it apparently went out of control and flipped over a guard rail landing on its roof. Firefighters spent about 30 minutes extricating 43-year old Christopher Doherty of Yarmouth who was rushed to Cape Cod Hospital. The crash is under investigation by Barnstable Police. Man arrested for third OUI
HYANNIS - A Yarmouth man was arrested for his third OUI early this morning. Barnstable Police allegedly spotted 50-year old Andrew Bernard run a red light on Route 132 and then make an illegal left turn into the Tiki Port restaurant parking lot. The officier noticed signs of intoxication and needed assistance from a state trooper when Bernard reportedly began to struggle while he was being handcuffed. Posted on 8/30 at 5:00 PM.
Cape woman indicted in murder for hire scheme
WORCESTER - A Cape Cod woman has been indicted in an alleged murder for hire scheme. The Worcester Telegram and Gazette is reporting 42-year old Caroline Kotoski was indicted after allegedly propositioning a man in 2004 to murder her husband for $7500 up front and $7500 more after the murder was complete. That man turned out to be an undercover state trooper. She is due back in a Worcester court in November when her attorney reportedly plans an insanity plea. Posted on 8/29 at 6:00 PM.
Items from cars and boats being stolen on upper Cape
MASHPEE - Police in Mashpee are warning people to lock their vehicles after a rash of break ins across town. In the past month some 40-50 people have called in reports of items such as cell phones being stolen out of vehicles. Meanwhile in Bourne a similar alarm is being sounded after a series of incidents on boats. In some cases equipment is stolen off the boats while in other cases the boats themselves are stolen. Crash leads to OUI arrest, stolen golf clubs
YARMOUTH - An early morning crash in Yarmouth led to a Barnstable man being arrested for OUI and the alleged discovery of stolen golf clubs. About 2:30 AM Police found a Jeep crashed on Route 6A at Summer Street. The driver identified as 33-year old Brian Walls reportedly failed sobriety tests and was arrested for OUI. A concerned citizen told police at the scene they had seen Walls remove a large bag from the vehicle and hide it before the police arrived. After confirming the clubs had been stolen during an earlier breaking at the Hyannis Golf pro shop on Route 132 in Barnstable Walls was additionally charged with receiving stolen property. Hyannis man charged with 9th OUI
SANDWICH - A Hyannis man was arrested Early Monday morning after crashing a jeep on Harlow Road in Sandwich near the Holly Ridge Golf Club. Police allege 38-year old Richard Bureau was operating under the influence for the ninth time. He suffered only minor injuries and reportedly refused a breathalyser. Under Melanie's Law that means his license is suspended for life. Bureau pled not guilty in court. Posted on 8/29 at 6:30 AM.
Man reportedly shot in Falmouth
FALMOUTH - A Mashpee man showed up at the East Falmouth fire station with apparent gun shot wounds to his hand and thigh. He reportedly told investigators he walking in the woods off Central Avenue when he heard a loud noise then noticed he was bleeding. He was taken to Falmouth Hospital and later transferred to a Boston hospital for treatment. Falmouth Police continue to investigate. Posted on 8/29 at 6:30 AM.
Occupants escape serious injury in fiery crash
MASHPEE - No serious injuries were reported after a van crashed in Wheeler Road in Mashpee around 4:30 PM. Shortly after the occupants escaped the van burst into flames. At least two people were taken to a hospital for evaluation. Mashpee Police are investigating the crash. Posted on 8/28 at 3:30 PM.
Person injured falling out of vehicle
FALMOUTH - One person was taken to Falmouth Hospital after reportedly falling out of a vehicle on Davis Straits about 2:30 PM. No further details were immediately available on the incident which is under investigation by Falmouth Police. Posted on 8/28 at 3:30 PM.
Gas leak causes evacuations
YARMOUTH - A utility crew struck a gas main on Willow Street in South Yarmouth late Monday morning. As a result several homes were evacuated and traffic rerouted until Keyspan could arrive and cap the leak. No one was injured. Posted on 8/28 at 3;30 PM.
Hot tub fire damages deck
FALMOUTH - An apparent malfunction in a hot tub sparked a fire on the deck of a Falmouth Home Early Monday morning. The homeowner had extinguished the flames at the home in the Ballymeade development when firefighters arrived about 5:45 AM. The fire was confined to the deck and there was no damage to the house and no one was injured. Posted on 8/28 at 3:30 PM.
Tenants lucky to escape Wellfleet fire
No working smoke or CO alarms in residence
WELLFLEET - Four people are lucky to have survived a fire in Wellfleet. The fire on Starrett Lane was reported about 6 AM and had been extinguished when firefighters arrived. Firefighters had to clear heavy smoke from the residence. The four occupants were treated for smoke inhalation and one woman was taken to Cape Cod Hospital for further treatment. Wellfleet Fire Chief Daniel Silverman tells Cape Wide News it appears combustible materials placed on top of a gas heater apparently ignited. The residents apparently thought the heater was not on but a thermostat may have activated because of the cool weather. The chief adds the four are lucky to have awoken given there were no smoke or carbon monoxide alarms present as required by law, something officials will be investigating with the landlord. Wellfleet fire; Police seek hit & run driver

WELLFLEET - Four people are lucky to have survived a fire in Wellfleet. The fire on Starrett Lane was reported about 6 AM and had been extinguished when firefighters arrived. Child struck by car in Dennis
DENNIS - A five year old girl was injured after being hit by a car on Main Street in Dennisport about 2 PM Sunday. The girl from Salem, NH was taken to CCH and then driven to Children's Hospital in Boston as a precaution. The driver 25-year old Holly Hill of Ashland has not been cited as the investigation continues. Posted on 8/28 at 11:30 PM.
Fishing boat sinks in Provincetown harbor
PROVINCETOWN - A fishing boat tied to a mooring off the Coast Guard pier sank Friday evening. No one was apparently on board the Maximus when it went down. The vessel was later salvaged according to the Times. It's not clear what caused the boat to go down. There was Weather and sea conditions were fair at the time. Posted on 8/28 at 11:30 PM.
Woman, dog injured in hit and run
FALMOUTH - Police are asking for the public's help in locating a hit & run driver who left a woman and dog injured in Falmouth. The woman and her dog were struck on Main Street shortly before 7:30 AM Saturday. The vehicle is described only as dark colored possibly Toyota which suffered right front headlight damage. The woman identified only as Wendy Nelson was taken to Falmouth Hospital where she was listed in stable condition. Her dog was treated by a veterinarian. Route 149/Service Road crash
No serious injuries in Marstons Mills crash
MARSTONS MILLS - Fortunately only one minor injury in the latest crash at a notorious Cape Cod intersection. The crash on Route 149 at the intersection of the Service Road and Exit 5 off ramp happened around 4:30 PM Saturday afternoon. One person was taken to Cape Cod Hospital and three others treated at the scene of the two vehicle crash. Traffic was backed up for a time. Woman uninjured after Dennis rollover
DENNIS - A close call for one woman driving in Dennis early this morning.
Reports from the scene say the driver failed to negotiate a turn on Theophilus Smith Road and crashed into some woods narrowly missing a fire hydrant and utility pole in the process.
A Cape Wide News reader caught the scene on their cell phone camera.

Traffic snarled by Route 28 crashes in Mashpee
MASHPEE - Two crashes at one intersection on Route 28 in Mashpee Friday afternoon keep traffic snarled much of Friday afternoon. A bicyclist collided with a car at Quinaquisset Avenue. The bicyclist was not seriously injured. A short time later a landscaping truck rolled over spilling mulch in the roadway. It also leaked some diesel fuel. The driver was not seriously injured. Traffic was rerouted until the mess was cleaned up. Another multi car crash late this afternoon at the intersection of Great Neck Road and Quashnet Road also caused traffic backups but no serious injuries. Medic delivers own baby; crashes
Overnight crashes in Yarmouth, Brewster
YARMOUTH - Yarmouth Police are investigating a rollover crash early Friday morning that ejected and seriously injured one person. It happened sometime after 1 AM on Highbank Road. Police say the driver 20-year old Paul Cameron of South Yarmouth was traveling at nearly 100 MPH. He was cited for speeding, operating reckless to endanger and marked lanes violation. Meanwhile in Brewster a car crashed into a utility pole a couple of hours later knocking out power in the neighborhood. Two people were taken to Cape Cod Hospital with non life-threatening injuries. Woman struck by car in Mashpee
MASHPEE - A woman was struck by a car while trying to cross Route 28 in Mashpee Thursday afternoon. It happened around 1 PM by the Deer Crossing. 54-year old Aubyn Bergstrom-Veno of Edgartown was taken to Falmouth Hospital with non life-threatening injuries. Bicyclist injured in collision with car in Dennis
DENNIS - A 21-year old Bulgarian woman was taken to Cape Cod Hospital with non life-threatening injuries after her bicycle collided with a car on Route 28 by Fisk Street in Dennis Thursday morning.
Dennis Police are investigating but believe the woman either fell into the vehicle or did not see it in the first place.

Crashes stalls morning commute
SANDWICH - Commuters trying to get off Cape ran into delays when two crashes occurred. Firefighters were cleaning up one crash when a second more serious one occurred at the top of the ramp from Route 130 to Route 6 westbound. A Sandwich DPW truck and a box truck collided causing the box truck to rollover. One person was taken to a hospital for evaluation and a small amount of diesel fuel leaked from the box truck. Medic delivers own baby (see the channel 7 video)
HARWICH - Talk about keeping it "all in the family". Harwich paramedic Tom Gould received a call while on duty that his wife Sarah was having contractions at their home in Chatham. When he got home she could not walk to the car so Gould called a Chatham ambulance. It seems little Lily just wasn't going to wait and came into the world in the ambulance on the way to the hospital by Exit 9. Tom helped deliver the baby girl, their second child, and cut the umbilical cord himself. Mother and baby are doing just fine. Posted on 8/24 at 6:30 PM.

Harwich device; kids steal car; Centerville crash
Potential explosive device clears recycling center
HARWICH - Police and the State Police bomb squad were called to the Harwich landfill after someone noticed a small military ordinance in the metal pile Wednesday morning.
It turned out to contain a small amount of powder but no charge attached to it.
The area was sealed off for about a half hour.

Juveniles accused of joyride
MASHPEE - Three juveniles were tracked down by a K-9 dog and charged after police answered a call about a vehicle with a loud muffler traveling the Valley Road area with no lights Early Wednesday. The driver was charged with receiving stolen property, failing to stop for police, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, operating unlicensed and open container of alcohol. One passenger was charged with disturbing the peace, open container, receiving stolen property over $250 and trespassing after he reportedly jumped a fence into the Otis base. The third with charged with possession of Class D and receiving stolen property over $250. Posted on 8/24 at 6:30 AM.
Centerville crash backs up Route 28 traffic
CENTERVILLE - A two vehicle crash on Route 28 by the Centerville Plaza shut down the busy road backing up traffic for miles.
An SUV and a car collided around 1:20 PM causing the SUV to roll over. The severity of injuries was not immediately known.

Stabbing; Pedestrians struck in Wellfleet; Dennis gas leak; Yarmouth crashes
Vehicle smashes into house, flees scene
HYANNIS - A vehicle crashed into a house on Bearses Way at Fresh Holes Road around 2 AM causing extensive damage to the building. The vehicle then fled the scene.

Police investigating Marstons Mills crash
MARSTONS MILLS - Barnstable Police are investigating a crash late Monday night in Marstons Mills. Reports are a motorcycle was involved in the crash at the intersection of Osterville/West Barnstable Road and Captain Studley Road. A Cape Wide News reader who passed by the scene reported the motorcycle was in the woods and appeared heavily damaged. The operator apparently escaped serious injuries according to officials. Suspect caught in Hyannis stabbing
HYANNIS - Police were able to quickly catch up to a stabbing suspect Monday afternoon. The stabbing occurred near the intersection of Route 28 and Yarmouth Road. No information was available on the condition of the victim. Barnstable and State Police reportedly followed the vehicle up Route 6 until it got off at Exit 5. A felony stop was conducted on Route 149 just south of the roundabout where one person was reportedly taken into custody. No further details were immediately available.
Two pedestrians struck by car in Wellfleet
WELLFLEET - Two pedestrians were struck by a car on Route 6 in South Wellfleet shortly before 3 PM. It happened as the two were apparently trying to cross the highway from the $2 T-Shirt Shop to Seabury Surf Gift Shop. One of the victims 21-year old Bethany Ferguson reportedly suffered a head injury and was taken to a field at the Nauset Regional High School in Eastham to meet a Medflight helicopter which flew her to Boston Medical Center. The other victim 16-year old Linda Sutton was taken to Cape Cod Hospital. The driver of the older model Ford Crown Victoria 80-year Lora Bumps was shaken up but not injured. Wellfleet Police are investigating the crash but it does not appear the driver was at fault. A cracked grill and broken parking light were the only signs on the vehicle of the accident which backed up traffic in both directions for a couple of miles. Neighborhood evacuated after gas main break
DENNIS - A neighborhood on Uncle Bob's Way in Dennis was evacuated for a time after a backhoe struck a gas main around 10 AM. Firefighters stood by the scene until Keyspan could arrive and make repairs. No one was injured. Postede on 8/21 at 2:00 PM.
Convenience store struck by car
YARMOUTH - A vehicle struck the Old Main Street gas station/Dunkin' Donuts in Yarmouth about 7:45 AM. Police believe the woman driving had her sandal wedge between the pedals. No one was injured but the building suffered extensive damage. Posted on 8/21 at 1:00 PM.
Man charged with 2nd OUI after crash
YARMOUTH - A Yarmouth man was charged with his second OUI after crashing his car on Long Pond Drive Sunday afternoon. 41-year old Alan Beers was taken to Cape Cod Hospital for treatment of non life-threatening injuries. He was also charged with marked lanes and operating to endanger. Several beer cans were reportedly strewn around the crash scene. Posted on 8/21 at 1:00 PM.
