Driver escapes serious injury after spectacular crash
Power knocked out to CCBL opening game

HARWICH - A driver escaped serious injury after a spectacular crash in Harwich. About 9 PM a van struck a pole on Headwaters Drive just off Route 124. The impact snapped the pole and caused the van to rollover.

Live wires came down on the van trapping the driver and keeping rescuers at bay until NStar could respond. The unidentified driver (right) walked to the ambulance and was taken to CCH for evaluation.

Power was knocked out in the area including Whitehouse field where the Harwich Mariners were taking on the Chatham Athletics in the opening night game of the Cape Cod Baseball League. The game came to a sudden stop when the lights went out in the 5th inning. Harwich Police are investigating the crash.

Crash slows Route 137 crash

HARWICH
- A two car crash on Route 137 at exit 11 from the Mid-Cape Highway about 4:30 PM caused slowdowns in the area. No serious injuries are reported, but the car above ended up a 100 f eet off the ramp in the woods. Harwich Police are investigating the crash.  Photo by W. Brooks

Two injured in dirt bike crash
MARSTONS MILLS
- Two people were taken to Cape Cod Hospital after a dirt bike accident in Marstons Mills sometime after 4 PM.

The crash happened off High River Road. One of the injuries was serious but neither are believed to be life threatening.

Driver arrested for OUI after crash

BREWSTER - Brewster Police believe alcohol was a factor in a crash on Route 137 early Friday afternoon. The crash happened around 1 PM on at Old Long Pond Road. Firefighters had to stabilize the van above using sticks of wood known as cribbing so they could extricate the driver.

36-year old John Valinski of Eastham was taken to Cape Cod Hospital for treatment. Brewster Police arrested Valinski for suspicion of operating under the influence of alcohol, operating to endanger and marked lanes violation.

Woman seriously injured in fall in Orleans
ORLEANS
- A woman was seriously injured after falling off a ladder in Orleans Friday afternoon.

Its not clear how far she fell. She was rushed to Eldredge Park and Medflighted to a Boston Hospital.

Orleans Police continue to investigate the incident. Further details were not immediately available.

Kitchen fire damages Yarmouth condo
YARMOUTH
- A smoky kitchen fire damaged a unit at the Bassett Pond Condos at 424 Buck Island Road early Friday afternoon. No one was injured.

Its believe the fire started on a stove and spread to the kitchen. There was some smoke damage in other rooms.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. Further details were not immediately available.

Mother injured in crash behind Cape Cod Mall

    
A mother is wheeled to an ambulance after her car collided with a pickup; her 2 kids were unhurt
HYANNIS - A mother was seriously injured in a crash by the Cape Cod 5 Cents Savings Bank on Route 28 behind the Cape Cod Mall about 10:45 AM.

Rescuers had to extricate the mother from her Volvo. Fortunately her two kids appeared to have escaped injury. Hyannis Deputy Chief Dean Melanson is seen here walking the kids to an ambulance which took them to the hospital to be with their mother.  

The driver of the other vehicle a pickup truck was not injured. Barnstable Police are investigating the crash.

Two charged with drug offenses in Yarmouth
YARMOUTH
- Two people were nabbed for alleged drug trafficking Thursday night in Yarmouth after members of the Yarmouth and Barnstable Police Departments executed a search warrant at 7 Evergreen Street in South Yarmouth. 36-year old Louis Andrade of Yarmouth (left) and 25-year old Farley Harrington of Provincetown (right) were both charged with trafficking in cocaine and possession of a Class B substance (cocaine). The arrests came as a result of a joint investigation initiated by Barnstable Police Detective Sergeant Sean Balcom regarding crack cocaine distribution. Seized in the search were: 25 Grams of Crack Cocaine, 4 Methadone Pills and $3,000 Cash. Both suspects were held at Yarmouth Police Headquarters overnight and transported to the Barnstable District Court Friday morning for arraignment.

Hyannis man arrested after stabbing
HYANNIS
- Barnstable Police arrested a Hyannis man after an apparent stabbing Thursday night. Police responded to Hiramar Road about 9:30 PM where a man with a minor stab wound to the back. 37-year old Timothy Barrows was taken to Cape Cod Hospital. 60-year old Abe McQueen was charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (knife), and assault & battery (domestic). Barrows reportedly told police McQueen was arguing with a woman and alleged McQueen slapped her when he tried to intervene. McQueen was due to be arraigned Friday in Barnstable District Court.

CAPE COD - Cape Cod police officers took park in the Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run Friday morning. Starting about 5 AM in Provincetown officers from each town took turns relaying the torch from one end of the Cape to the other. The Law Enforcement Torch Run is part of a worldwide program to benefit the athletes of the Special Olympics.  The Torch Run is not a race; it is a series of torch relays in which Law Enforcement officials  carry the Special Olympics Flame of Hope to opening ceremonies of Special Olympics Massachusetts Summer Games. To right members of the Provincetown and Truro Police Departments pose before starting the relay.
