Harwich fatal; Hyannis, Falmouth crashes; S. Yarmouth two-car crash; Smoke condition at the Ocean Club in S. Yarmouth
Top story: Single-vehicle Fatal Crash in Harwich
This sedan landed on its roof after slicing through the utility pole in the background killing the driver.
HARWICH PORT - Around 1:30 a.m. Friday, a late-model sedan apparently traveling at high speed north on Forest Street near the Harwich Port Golf Club lost control and sheared a utility pole before landing on its roof. When Harwich firefighters arrived at the scene, the driver identfield by police as 30-year old Frank E. Goudey of Harwich was found deceased in the wreckage. The driver's side of the car sustained a u-shaped deformation where it struck the pole (middle right).
To determine if a passenger might have been thrown from the vehicle, Harwich authorities requested the assistance of a K-9 unit from Yarmouth to search the area. At the time of this report no one else had been found.
It appears that the vehicle might have become airborne before hitting the pole, which was broken into three pieces. The topmost piece remained suspended by the wires still carrying power to the area, preventing recovery and investigative activities from taking place until NStar could cut the power.
Harwich Police are investigating the crash. Forest Street was closed well into the morning while the investigation was underway and the pole was replaced. (Story and photos by Kevin Morley/CWN).

The injured were taken to Cape Cod Hospital by Hyannis ambulances. None of the injuries are life threatening likely thanks to the well built vehicle. Police are investigating if wet roads contributed to the crash. No charges are expected to be filed.
Two vehicle crash in Falmouth
FALMOUTH - Thursday evening at about 6:30 p.m. a female driver in a Mercury sedan was pulling out of Carriage Shop Road when poor visibility apparently caused her to pull into the path of a Ford Crown Victoria sedan traveling on Sandwich Road. The impact left the Mercury and car parts in the center of Sandwich Road. Both the Ford and Mercury suffered extensive front and rear side damage and had to be placed on flatbed wreckers for removal from the crash scene. The male driver of the Ford and the driver and passenger in the Mercury declined transport to the hospital after being evaluated by Falmouth Fire/Rescue. Due to the busy nature of that section of Sandwich Road and a light rain in the area, Falmouth Police were kept busy with traffic while the crash scene was cleared and investigated. Although the Jeep was severely damaged the young male driver walked away from his vehicle under his own power and was transported to Cape Cod Hospital by a mutual aid ambulance from Cotuit Fire/Rescue with what were said to be minor injuries.
Mashpee Fire stood by the scene awaiting NSTAR as the pole took down primary power lines and the wires were still hot.
