Power lines fall in Hyannis; Rear-end collision on Route 28 in West Dennis; Numerous calls for garbage truck fire; Brewster crash

New overnight: Man burned in car fire
FALMOUTH - A man suffered burns after his car caught fire in Falmouth Wednesday evening. It happened around 10 p.m. on Sandwich Road at Boxberry Hill Road in East Falmouth. Upon arrival, firefighters found a Cadillac sedan with an engine compartment fire with smoke and flames showing. The fire was quickly extingushed. Rescue personnel evaluated an adult male, the driver and sole occupant of the sedan, for facial burns sustained when he attempted to open the hood of his vehicle prior to firefighters arriving. He was taken by ambulance to Falmouth Hospital for treatment of his burns. Story by Eric Tinglof.

Rear-end collision on Route 28 in West Dennis

   A rear-ender snarled traffic just after Marathon Seafood On Route 28.
WEST DENNIS – Shortly after 10 a.m. Wednesday a Dodge Caravan minivan rear-ended a Mercury Sable sedan in the eastbound lane of Route 28 across from the West Dennis Public Library.  The occupants of the minivan -- a young woman and a small child – were uninjured. The older female driver and sole occupant of the sedan refused treatment from Dennis Fire Department medics. Route 28 was reduced to one lane and traffic quickly stacked up. Dennis Police officers were on scene for traffic control and the investigation.

Power lines fall snarling traffic, causing outages
HYANNIS - There were more power problems in Hyannis on Wednesday. Around 11:30 a.m. a primary power line came down across Bearse's Way causing power outages in the area. Police had to close the road between Route 28 and Enterprise Road for about 2 1/2 hours until NStar could make repairs.  Story by Frank Paparo.

Meanwhile around 2:15 p.m. more wires fell at the intersection of Bassett Road and Stevens Street in Hyannis. Police were forced to detour traffic away from the scene and power had to be cut in the area. The area was not completely clear until around 7 p.m.  Story by Frank Paparo.

Two injured in chain reaction crash in Brewster
BREWSTER - Two people were injured when three vehicles collided in a chain reaction on Route 6A in Brewster near the Orlean's line around 11:15 a.m. Wednesday.  Traffic was slowed until the wreckage was cleared. Brewster Police are invetigating.

Police flooded with calls over garbage truck fire
YARMOUTH - Around 7 a.m. Wednesday morning, Yarmouth and Barnstable Police received numerous reports of a garbage truck on the move on fire. A passing motorist finally got the driver's attention by Kelly Tires on Yarmouth Road where firefighters quickly extinguished the fire. Investigators believe a protective cover on the truck came in contact with the exhaust pipe sparking the fire.  Story by Richard Copley.

Elderly woman shaken up after being hit by car
EASTHAM - Police looking for an overdue elderly female found her when they responded to a car vs pedestrian call Wednesday. The driver of the car was exiting the Eastham Veterinarian Hospital onto Route 6 and bumped the 81-year-old woman.  She was taken to Cape Cod Hospital as a precaution. No charges were filed against the driver.
