GOP: Gay Old Party
Welcome to the G.O.P., now more appropriately referenced as the Gay Old Party. Still, Democrats seem to think that their party is more "liberal" when it comes to GLBT's. But these days that stereoype is becoming increasingly hard to believe.
Let's begin with Capitol....(cough cough) I mean Brokeback Hill. In 1980 Congressman Robert Bauman (R-MD), a founding member of Young America's Foundation, was caught soliciting sex from what he thought was a 16-year-old male prostitute. At first he denied being gay, then blamed his behavior on alcoholism and claimed to have recovered via the 12-step program. Then in 1983 he finally admitted to being gay. You can read all about it in his book called The Gentleman From Maryland.
It wasn't too long after the Bauman sexcapade that Steve Gunderson, the Republican Congressman from Wisconsin, had a sex sting of his own. He also lost his election and is now shacking up with his boy toy Robby Morris. In 1996 he was the only Republican to vote against President Clinton's Defense of Marriage Act. He, like Congressman Bauman, also tried to make money off of his story. You can learn more by reading his book House and Home.
Next we have Congressman Jim Kolbe (R-AZ), who retired last year, likely due to old age. In 1996 Congressman Jim Kolbe, under pressure from the powerful and threatening gay lobbyist groups, came out after voting in favor of the DOMA. Luckily for Jim, Arizona was thriving with Gay Republican powerhouses like Neil Guiliano, the mayor of the state's second largest city, Steve May, a high ranked military officer and legislator, and several others. So they all bulldozed the D.C. based liberal gay machine out of their State.
Let's not forget Michael Huffington, the billionaire oil heir and California Congressman who lost his US Senate campaign to Dianne Feinstein by less than 1 percentage point. After spending a record 6 million dollars of his own money on his first Congressional campaign, he also broke the record for US Senate campaigns, spending more than 40 million dollars of his own money in an attempt to defeat Senator Feinstein. If the name Huffington sounds familiar, Michael is also the ex-husband of Arianna Huffington, the loud-mouthed virago who ran as an Indepent in the special election following the recall of California's rebuked Governor Gray Davis. Huffington explains himself by saying that he was truly bisexual when he was involved with Huffington. I think being married to her would any man gay. Huffington is now a huge financer of Gay Republican Organizations like the Log Cabin Club and the Liberty Forum.
More recently voters all around the country we shocked when they learned of the multiple accounts of Mark Foley (R-FL) seducing male Congressional pages to fulfill his hedonistic desires. That was the "straw that broke the camels back" for many voters here in the USA. First it was the Prisoner Abuse scandal and Bush's incompetency, then then the Abramof scandal, then Congressional Republican's condoning homosexual statutory rape among other things.
A few month's later, when all the honest Christian families in rural America were convinced that the criminals and perves had been purged from the party of moral values and were beginning to see promise on the horizon, lusty Larry Craig (R-ID) was found peeking at men through cracks in bathroom stalls and soliciting sex. Like some of the aforementioned "Gentlemen" from Brokeback Hill, Craig also claimed that he wasn't gay. It makes me wonders, with all these gay sex stings among Republican closet cases on Brokeback Hill, how many other homosexual Republicans are there that we don't know about? Surely there must be A LOT more. If these politicians feel comfortable enough to be so reckless in their gay sexual habits, it must mean that this kind of behavior is tolerated and runs rife in Congress.
And there are lesbian Republican high office holders also. Bonnie Dumanis, the DA from San Diego County, CA, impresses me the most. She grew up in the blue collar city of Brockton, Massachusetts and worked her way through UMass Amherst and law school before becoming a judge in southern California. After defeating a very popular Democrat in 2003, Dumanis became the first openly gay DA in the USA, and the first Jew to hold the office. Since then she has lost over 100 lbs and is no longer burly and butch. She now puts on make up, wears dresses and has long hair, in contrast to her days when she was the ruthless and scarey judge who handed down some of California's toughest sentences. Victoria Siegler, another openly lesbian elected official, comes in at a close second when it comes to the gay lady Republicans. She was appointed to a high court in Florida by Jeb before being elected to her current position.
Here in Massachusetts we also have many notable gay Republicans. Let's start with Patrick Guerriero. Guerriero, the 2002 Republican candidate for Lt. Governor, politely dropped out of the race so that Kerry "Ice Queen" Healey, a Melissa Etheridge look-alike, could fulfill her own political ambitions and run on a ticket with Mitt Romney. Elected State Rep. right out of college at the age of 23, Guerriero served three terms in the Massachusett House of Representatives before being elected Mayor of Melrose for two consecutive terms. During his second term he stepped down to become the Executive Office's chief of staff. Guerriero gained national attention in 2002 when he was the Republican's top choice for Lt. Governor (before being covertly muscled out by Healey) because he was also openly gay.
Also running in 2002 for a high office was Daniel Grabauskus, who was running for State Treasurer. Grabauskus, who was also openly gay, won the Republican primary but lost to a slick and well-finance Democrat in the general election by a very slim margin. The 2002 Mass Republican Convention was packed full of prominant gays, many of them current or former candidates themselves. They include Richard Babson (2004 State Rep. candidate, family founded Babson College, super-wealthy), Mike Duffee (State Rep. Candidate), Mike Motzkin (Executive Office Enternal Relations Director, State Rep. Candidate), Mike Conway (owner of Conway Insurance, lost Congressional election by slim margin), Abner Mason (Cellucci/Swift Chief Policy Adviser), and many, many others. At that years convention the most sought after VIP invitations were to the exquisite and exclusive parties hosted by the Log Cabin People in their mansions and luxrious hotel suites. Coincidentally the host speaker of the covention that year was the gay Republican Senate Minority Leader, Brian Lees, who is now the Clerk of Clerks for Hampden county.
Then there is Kevin Dumas, the current major of Attleboro, very gay, and in the most anti-gay region of Massachusetts. Still, Dumas, who was first elected Mayor at the age or 24, defeated his two Democratic opponents in this years election by an unprecendented landslide victory. Both of them got 4 percent of the vote between the two of them, compared to Dumas' nearly 90%. Dumas ranks #1 when it comes to attractiveness among politicians in Massachusetts. Then again, in viewing the profile of our legislators and municipal leaders, that doesn't say very much. Go to www.dumasformayor.com and you will see what a REAL Republican is.
Also worth noting is an impressive openly gay Republican state senator from Minnesota. Paul Koering, who was previously a farmer owner, ousted the President of the Minnesota Senate when he first won the office. Last year was a very interesting time for the Senator. First he delivered the most paintywaist testimony in support of gay marriage to the state legislature. "Poor me, poor us, we are such victims." Fortunately he was able to regain credibility when he fended off a pro-abortion Republican primary challenger when he mobilized the the pro-life community in Minnesota behind his campaign. It was a campaign of pro-abortion and anti-gay Republicans against pro-gay and pro-life Republicans. He, like Dumas, won a landslide victory.
Let's not forget our favorite Drag Queen, Ann "The Man" Coulter. I have never seen a Diva perform as well as sh-him. When I first saw Coulter perfrom live it was at a speaking event hosted by the Republican Club at Smith Collge, an elite all-girls schools in lesbian-dominated Northampton, MA where 80-85% of the student body identifies as queer (lesbian, bisexual, transgender, non-gender, etc). It began with the butch President the club introducing Coulter to an audience of about 300 college students, mostly from Smith, Amherst College and UMass. She concluded her introduction by threatening the liberals with police butality if they stepped out of line during the speech, before joining the other Mary Cheneyesque Billionaire young Republican butches in the RSVP section of the front row.
Five seconds later the silhouette of what looked like a tall she-male with long bleached blonde wearing a mini-shirt emerged from the dark background of the stage. After the clapping and booing died down she approached the microphone and in a deep robust voice thanked the Smith Republicans for hosting her. All six or seven of them in the front row , their eyes gleaming with admiration, giggled and nodded their heads with approval. The rest of her speech/performance was analogous to that of a drag show. She frequently swished her bright blond hair around as she was fiery, cruel and acrimonious in impugning her liberal antagonists, kind of in the same way that queeny gay guys and drag queens do when they snap their fingers, swirl their head, flick their wrist and make vicious remarks to anyone who irks them. Her deep masculine voice and adam's apple made it even more entertaining, definitely more high quality than any drag show from PTown.
Nobody knows for sure the exact gender of Ann Coulter. People have asked her on several occasions and each time she went into drag mode shaking her head, rolling her eyes and deliver a verbal smackdown. One thing is for sure though, straight women don't behave or talk as she does. And so she is my favorite Republican Gender Bender.

There are far too many Homopublican officials in America, and their counterparts in various countries abroad, to biography on here, so I must cut the list short. The next time a Democrat tells you that it's an oxymoron or a freak of nature to be gay and Republican, you will be more informed and less likely to be sucked into their brainwashing propoganda. Freaks of nature? Yeah, maybe the ones in Congress. But an oxymoron? For some, but not most.
