Rally 'Round The Sammich!

There are times when the Cape is bitterly divided, from town-to-town.

While we keep it mostly civil, there are times when maybe someone from Town A thinks someone from Town B is trash. Maybe those trashy people look upon the Town A people  as effete p*ssies. We all blame the other for the traffic, the crime, the social issues... we only stop bickering with each other to bitch about the tourists.

It's natural, when this many people share a Cape. We can't even put up a windmill without a catfight.

But there are times when we can all come together. Cross that bridge and drive a bit... you're definitely in another world. You know they root against us... they're jealous of the ocean, the isolation, the dollars, the laid-back lifestyle...

Eff them. As long as they stay on their side of the bridge, we don't have to slap them around.,... generally. Every now and then, they draw us off-Cape for a DIVISION 2 STATE TITLE BOYS HOCKEY GAME!!!!!

That's right... people of the Cape, unite behind the Sandwich High School Hockey Team. They go into battle at the Gahden this Sunday, against the despicable ragamuffins of Wilmington High School.

Sandwich slugged their way into the tournament, starting off with a 4-2 pimping of always-dangerous Oliver Ames. After that,it was a 3-1 slugout with fellow Cape and Islands resident Martha's Vineyard.

Let me pause right here to note that, with only one other losson their record, it's safe to say that the Vinyahd is the second best team in the state... at least in Division 2.

Sandwich finally made it to the State Finals by virtue of a 1-0 shootout victory over Franklin. It was scoreless after regulation AND overtime when Matt Cassista juked the Franklin goaltender to give Sandwich the lead. They tell me that the poor goalie is still befuddled.

Sandwich goaltender Pat H(or F)arrington shut the party down with a sweet stop on Franklin's last gasp. He then let forth a hearty bellow, and skated off with a cheerleader on each arm.

Sandwich is 19-2-3. Wilminton is 17-2-4, and plays in a terribly difficult conference. The Man (according to Abdullah, all betting lines in Massachusetts are made by somebody known as "The Man.") has Wilmington as a disgusting 3 goal favorite, but there are times when The Man doesn't know Ditka.

Three goals is a mountain in hockey, so my dollars are on the Sammich!

That game is Sunday, 2:45 PM, at the TD Banknorth Garden.

DIVISION 1A HOCKEY

Reading vs Malden Catholic.

Reading is 20-1, so I'll put money on that becoming 21-1.

DIVISION 1 HOCKEY

Westford Acadmey vs Needham

Interesting game. Westford Academy was the #1 seed. Needham was the last team eliminated in the higher-caliber 1A tournament. Needham is favored by 1 goal, and I'll go along with The Man on this one.

DIVISION 3 HOCKEY

Scituate vs Westfield. Scituate is the two goal favorite here, and favor them over whoever the Central/Western MA bracket barfs up.

Congrats to Hingham and St. Mary's, the Girls Hockey State Champions.

Props to Sandwich girls hoop, who almost got up in them guts on a tough New Bedford squad. They tried to hook it up with the Hockey team to bring home Double Gold.

BOYS HOOP DIVISION 1

Central Catholic vs St. Johns

C-Double is favored by 3, and who can argue with the scalps they've collected?

GIRLS DIVISION 1 HOOP

Andover vs Northhampton

Andover ended New Beddy's run, so they must be good enough to justify that 1 point spread they have.

BOYS DIVISION 2 HOOP

Catholic Memorial vs Tantasqua

CM has a healthy 6 point spread favoring them. Tantasqua sounds like that Navajo wrestler that the WWE trots out now and then. I'll give the points.

GIRLS DIVISION 2 HOOP

Millbury vs Wellesley

Wellesley moped out Duxbury, so I'll ignore the 2 point spread and give the points in hope that favored Millbury avenges my alma mater.

BOYS DIVISION 3 HOOP

Scituate vs Frontier

Frontier is a 4 point favorite, but I'm going Scituate Scituate Scituate!!! Two titles for a nowheresville coastal town in one winter season is nothing to scneeze at.

GRRRRLS DIVISION 3 HOOPS

Archbishop Williams vs Quaboag

I don't know what a Quaboag is, and I don't bet on it if I can't identify it. Archie is giving 3, and i'm taking.

Congrats to North Cambridge Catholic and Cohasset, the Division 4 champs. Cohasset wasn't gonna let Scituate hog all the titles, right?

GIRLS GYMNASTICS

Leah Pacheco led Barnstable to the State Gymnastics championship. Chelsey Harper, Laura Malicia and Brittany Agohian all flipped around well for Da Champs!

Boys of Barnstable... you really shouldn't go into adulthood without at least once dating a hyper-flexible high school girl. These ones at Barnstable are winners, proven to be superior than the girls of all the other towns. That's all we have to say on the matter.

I am still in a deep depression over my beloved Minutemen blowing an 18 point lead and losing in the A10 quarterfinals. Our once proud program has now gone without an NCAA appearance since 1998 and we havent won a game in the A10 tourney since 2001. THIS CANT BE REAL....NO WAY. When Coach Cal was here we won 5 straight A10 Regular Season and Conference Tournament Championships. The only question now is what bridge to jump off of....Sagamore or Bourne. I tried the Bass River Bridge and the one on Centerville River but I just got a little wet. Maybe one of the gymnasts from Barnstable High can come over and ease my depression. Plus I lost 35 units at Foxwoods last night. Maybe I go to the Port O Call tonight and pick a fight with some local toughs.

Monpo, I'd take you up on some of those point spreads and bet you, but my recent seance with the late Jimmy the Greek (actually a Jew named Snyder) warned me not to bet against you.

Elle is mad at me for giving props to Barnstable gymnastics. She's still upset about BHS knocking Duxbury out of the field hockey tournament.

It won't get violent, but the tension is palpable.

The best bridge to jump off (for fun) that I know of is the Powder Point Bridge in Duxbury. Just make sure you go at High Tide, and look out for boats.

Solon... JTG knows better than to cross me. That's why they don't call him "Jimmy The Polack."

If I had to do myself up off a bridge, I'd probably go for the Tobin... just for the historical factor.

Also, one of my schools used to play softball on a field right under it in CHarlestown. It's way up there, and falling would hurt.
