SOS or SOP

The obvious truth finally dawns for Bush

After years of being in denial, the president has finally discovered the reality of global warming.  Exxon-Mobil, after spending  millions from their record profits to subsidize renegade climatologists in an effort to cast doubt on the issue have now  ceased that misbegotten activity. A new group of major company CEOs has formed the U. S. Climate Action Partnership; Alcoa, BP America,  DuPont, Caterpillar, GE, and Lehman Bros. among others.Their goal is to reduce greenhouse gasses 60% by 2050. Tony Blair, Arnold  Schwartzenegger, Deval Patrick, Barney Frank, and other political figures are making moves on behalf of their constituents' welfare and  that of the planet. Responsible thinking is on the move!

It seems strange that Senator Kennedy remains opposed to our best chance to benefit our health and our pocketbooks and doing our  local share in the effort to protect the planet. Is he waiting to see seaweed on his lawn?

The ever-hesitant Senator Kerry continues to stand aloof in the Cape Wind discussion. If he wants the support of environmentalists  (we all consider ourselves to be in those ranks don't we?) he ought to endorse the project that could reduce mercury pollution and acid  rain as well as eliminate the CO2 component of electricity generation.

Congressman Delahunt has taken a page  from the Karl Rove playbook: put out a proposal that pretends to be a positive force for  change, but in reality is a smoke-and-mirrors negation of achievable progress. His junket to Germany is a farce. He knows deep water
turbines are so costly they wont help us in the foreseeable future.

But have a good time, and don't forget to thank the donor.

Perhaps those whose SUVs sport "SOS" stickers will come to a much broader vision, saving the planet. "SOP" stickers would show a  desire to prevent disastrous weather consequences the world over. Can we hope the obstructionists will convert to responsible stewardship?

Is there a meaning of the word "strange" that I am missing?

Industrial wind developers are not providing a public service; the public is serving industrial wind developers. Al Gore goes to Hollywood, while Jim Gordon and Energy Management Systems head to Chelsea to build a peak power plant.

We have a functioning Nantucket Sound now. Let’s consider the bird in hand and the fish in the sea and public safety are worth much more than the promises made by developers. They consider the bottom line; accelerated capital depreciation schedules; investment and production tax credits; and an ocean grab from the gullible public of 24 square miles under conflicting use.

Show us the clean air delivered by wind towers; zoning of the OCS; comprehensive alternative use policy of this waterway, fair process under true NEPA review, and this developer will be shown the door.

Location, location, location should never have been a developer’s pick, Nantucket Sound. Wind tower siting guidelines issued by the Department of Interior US Fish and Wildlife Service, Sierra Club, American Bird Conservancy, and Greenpeace state that areas with endangered species should be avoided for a reason.

Say, Barbara, knock it off, you'll destroy what little is left of my environmentalist rep, and those turbines are beautiful, you might say "kinetic art", and almost never visible from Squaw Island".

Say, Ted from Hyannis Port:

Cape Wind is "kinetic art" to you while some may view Nantucket Sound as "God's Art." It's all in the eye of the beholder. Cape Wind is a utility power plant proposed for the “living room” of the Cape and islands’ to me.

How subjective is the word environmentalist? One who would support that we ignore the lead federal agencies' siting guidelines for wind towers; and not learn from wind industry experience with a disastrous toll to wildlife?

"Siting wind turbines in a major bird fly way chops large hawks and eagles up like large birdy blenders. I know about this because my organization is suing the County of Alameda California over its approval of Conditional Use Permits for thousands wind
turbines located in the Altamont Pass Wind Resources Area that are killing thousands of these birds every year. My organization CAlifornians for Renewable Energy, Inc. (CARE) is taking on the wind industry because the blood of eagles gives wind energy a black eye. Wind energy is all about location. Don't forget Enron got started in the wind industry in the Altamont Pass California."

barbara, its amazing how impervious you are to facts & reason. The litany of quarter truths you still cling to as they've been pummeled over & over by peer reviewed research is quite remarkable.

How's this for environmentalism? Do SOMETHING beside whine about the unfairness of the 19 agencies not accepting your version of the facts. You may wish to count the razor intellect of the Cape Cod Commission as being on your side, but that sounds desperate.
Barbra, either you are completely right & all accountable agencies are wrong (or bribed), or you’re just SO wrong about your theories you figure might as well go down with the ship.

There’s been nothing new in you often disproved rants in some time, perhaps you've just automated generic responses to any posts that contain the word 'windfarm' or 'truth'.
Altamont Pass was a terrible, poorly researched mess that has not been repeated in scale since due to superior research & technology.
The fear act is wearing thin.
