Democratic candidates for governor debate tonight
... as in Deval Patrick, Chris Gabrieli and Tom Reilly at 8 p.m. on New England Cable News and simulcast on WBUR, 90.9 FM. The hour-long debate will be moderated by NECN anchor R.D. Sahl and focus on health care, education and "other key issues," according to a NECN ad.
In a story in today's Boston Herald, Patrick has emerged as the front runner in a new poll with 31 percent, compared to 25 percent for Reilly and 22 percent for Gabrieli.
Cindy Sheehan coming to Nantucket
Anti-war activist speaks at Unitarian Church next Wednesday
Anti-war activist Cindy Sheehan (shown at her son's grave), author and founder of Gold Star Families for Peace, is making a speaking appearance on Nantucket to describe her efforts to end the war in Iraq. Sheehan, whose son Casey Sheehan was killed in Iraq while serving in the Army, will appear at the Unitarian Church, 11 Orange St., at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 5.

Kerry Healey making trio of Mid-Cape appearances Wednesday
Later that afternoon, at 4:30, Healey will attend groundbreaking for the new police headquarters building in Dennis, on Bob Crowell Road in South Dennis.
Then from 5 to 7 p.m., Healey gives GOP state rep candidate Dick Neitz's campaign a boost when she appears at a Neitz fundraiser at the Sand Bar restaurant, 4 Lighthouse Road, on the road to West Dennis Beach. Providing entertainment will be Cape piano legend Carroll Hill of Baxter's Boathouse Club. Suggested donation, $35; cash bar, hors d'oeuvres.

Rep. Perry urges strong turnout at support the troops rally
Members of the Clark Haddad American Legion Post 188 in Sandwich are holding a rally on Saturday for local residents to show their support for our troops in Iraq, according to a press release from State Rep. Jeff Perry, R-Sandwich.
The rally will be held from 11 a.m. to noon at the Wing School on Water Street in Sandwich. The cost of admission is to bring an item to be donated to American troops, from the following list:
- bug lotion, candy, batteries (AA, AAA and D), deodorant, coffee singles, magazines, eye drops, packaged cookies, decks of cards, foot powder, gum, mints, first aid kits, hair bands, hot chocolate, flashlights, hair brushes, Little Debbie snacks, generic cards, hand sanitizer, microwave popcorn, hats, gloves, hand wipes, microwave soups, paper, pens, Kleenex, powdered drink mixes, socks, Kool-Aid, Gatorade, T-shirts, mouthwash, ice tea, towels or wash clothes, Q-tips, peanuts, toys for soldiers' children, shampoo, conditioner, power bars, travel games, shaving items, Slim Jims, shower gel, snack foods, sunscreen, trail mix, toothbrushes and toothpaste.
Rep. Perry says "there will be live entertainment and honored guests" and asks those planning to attend to "remember to wear your red, white and blue!"
Summer kick-off fundraiser for Neitz
Two upcoming events for Ray Gottwald
Democratic state representative candidate Ray Gottwald of Harwich, running in the Outer Cape's 4th Barnstable District, has events planned on successive Saturdays: a reception tomorrow (June 17) from 3-5 p.m. at the home of Bob and Helen Duarte, 42 Martha's lane, South Harwich; RSVP, 508-430-8344; and on June 24, a coffee hour from 10 a.m. to noon (OK, couple hours) at the home of Bob and Florence McCarthy, 54 Chatham Road, Harwich; RSVP, 508-430-9815.
Two events this week for Gottwald
State rep candidate Ray Gottwald, a Harwich Democrat running in the Outer Cape's 4th Barnstable District, is [planning a pair of events this week: a fundraiser on Wednesday June 7 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Barnstable Tavern, Route 6A, Barnstable village. Hosting the event will be Gottwald supporters Jacque Fields, Andy Kamarck, Robert Lawless, John O'Brien and Julia Taylor. Three Republican candidates to address Lower Cape GOP club
Members of the Lower Cape Cod Republican W0men's Club will hear from three candidates at the club's monthly luncheon on Friday, June 2 - Shown on right from the left, incumbent county commissioner William Doherty, state senate candidate Ric Barros and state representative candidate Don Howell.
The luncheon starts at 11:30 a.m. at the Yarmouth House restaurant on Route 28 In West Yarmouth. Choices for lunch are baked Chatham scrod, grilled chicken caesar or London broil with mushroom gravy. The cost is $15, which includes chowder, ice cream pie and coffee.
